As I have probably mentioned before... Ive been here in Iceland for around a year. Ive been here at work over 60 hours every week, and am really looking forward to going back to the states in a month. I am planning on getting some maintenance done on my cues... new tips and a ferrule on one of my cues. I was also considering trying to find someone to put on a leather wrap on my playing cue for me. After being here so long, I sweat in 60 degree weather, and I am going to be home in Phoenix for a month.

So my question is really what is everyones experience with leather wraps... will they be better than irish linen as far as my hand sweating? What would be an expected ball-park price for this wrap change?

Also if anyone has any advice on a good ferrule I am open for suggestions. I know a lot of it is probably personal preference, and Ill probably have to try a few to find the right one. I guess it would just be good to know what quality brands exist, and I can ask around more when I get home.

Thanks for any advice you may have.

I live in Alaska and use a leather wrap now and really like it. When I lived in Florida I used linen because of the humidity and moist hands, but I'm not a great player. I just enjoy the game.

You might like a leather wrap, even in Arizona, because it isn't humid. I like my Tiger Wrap & it's been on my cue for 2 years. You could send it to Tiger ahead of time & have the cue waiting for your arrival. Tony is a great guy.

Leather wrap is great

About a month or two ago I got my new cue with a leather wrap and I love it. I wasn't sure I was going to like it after reading many of the posts, after playing with it, it feels good to me. Many people wrote in and said that leather was a problem for them because of sweating hands. I just came back from playing pool in Key West and the last day their A/C was broke. It wasn't fun being in a dark, humid, smokey room; but as far as the leather wrap goes it wasn't a problem.

Well, sounds interesting at least. Any information on prices, timeframe, that sort of thing? It would be pretty cool to be able to say I have a leather wrap from Germany for some reason. Guess I could take a little piece of Europe with me that way.

My email address is JJHolmquist@yahoo.com if you have any info, or you could just reply here.

Thanks

Well there are 2 cuemakers who post here that I've seen do excellent work.

If your in the North-East see Mike Webb. Not many people will claim to do a better leather wrap than him.

Since your going to AZ look up Bryan Mordt. He only does pigskin, but its very nice work and inexpensive (IMHO).

If you are in Phoenix...Jeff Pranke does a great job putting on leather wraps...he hangs out at Six Shooters on 35th Ave and Peoria...usually there in the afternoons.
Works on Rambows, Joss Wests, Balabushkas, etc.
Contact Brian Mordt (BCM Cues) for help on other cue repairs.
you can also contact him (Email) on this site...

Thanks for the great info (that goes for everyone else as well.)

Six shooters is around 5 miles from the house I grew up in. Ill try to find Jeff, since I will probably be all over the place shooting as much as possible. Ive got a whole month to do whatever I want, so you can be sure I will be spending plenty of time on the pool table.
