A word war has erupted between defending Philippine National Open champion Lee Van Corteza and 2006 Doha Asian Games 9-ball silver medalist Jeffrey de Luna.
The animosity between the two top cue Filipino artist erupted when De Luna announced that the Billiards and Snookers Congress of the Philippine's (BSCP) decision to replace him for Corteza in the Philippine team is highly questionable.
The Philippine team will be seeking to repeat their championship performance in the 2005 Philippine Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand this December.
"Okey lang sana sa akin, kaso ang nasaktan ay mga kamag-anak ko," Corteza said on Friday, or two days after De Luna defeated him in their knockout match at the World Pool Championship.
De Luna won their round-of-64 match and said after the game that he used his replacement in the SEA Games team as an inspiration to pull the come-from-behind 10-7 victory.
"After I won the silver in Doha, the BSCP assured me that I would compete in the SEA Games," De Luna said after defeating Corteza. "But they gave my spot to Corteza. I used my anger over the situation to inspire me during the match. At least I was able to show that I am a better player than Corteza."
Now, Corteza is challenging De Luna to a money game to settle the animosity between them.
"I will fight De Luna if he has at least a million to bet. Anywhere, anytime," Corteza said. -
