Lengthen cue from the joint

Hi, I have a cue which I want to change joint pins and also lengthen the butt. Many years ago I spoke to a cuemaker and he said he could add an inch on a cue joint without it having a detrimental effect on the playability. I think he said he could remove the pin and then plug the hole with maple and extend it to fit another joint collar, then refit the pin.

The bottom picture is the cue and want to add a 1 inch Elforyn collar so it looks the same as the first picture.

Has anyone knowledge and experience doing this?

Cheers

The taper of the cue will continue, so adding an inch wil result in the joint collar being slightly smaller in diameter.
In general it's always more complicated and sometimes impossible to make changes to a finished cue. I tend to charge more for these jobs as there's absolutely no margin for error which means more time spent setting things up and dialling it in.

Extending your butt plate would be much easier and less expensive. And would change the hit very little.

I have seen it done exactly as you are proposing, of course with no taper in the new joint collar, to match the diameter on both the butt and shaft.

I have no idea how it played.

I am looking through my drives to see if I have pictures. I don't remember who did it.
