I am going to Brookfield next week 30th through the 1st. I am planning on hitting up Lenny's in Mil. when I am there. If anyone wants to play let me know. Also if anyone has played there and wants to tell me "Hey their cheesburgers suck" or "Uhhh that may not be a safe place to go, place * is a better place". Let me know.

Thanks

JV

From what I've heard Lenny's is not a safe place to go. I've heard stories about the people there watching cars in the back lot get broken into on the CCTV. Also, I've heard that if you're not black it may not be a good place for you. I haven't gone there, but this is from my best friend, a guy who knows how to handle himself. If you go and hear differently, definitely let us know! Possibly things change based on the time of day also.

I'd check out Romines High Pockets. http://www.romineshighpockets.com/
Their site seems to be down for the moment, but it'll probably come back up. The place is a little hard to find. It's on a main street, but the first time I went I was up and down that strip for about 45 minutes trying to find it. They have a purple sign in front, but it is a little bit hidden by a tree.

The tables are quite nice, something like 50 GC3s. Pockets are big, but they play nice. Lots of 3 cushion tables, and a snooker table. Check out the web page for their pool specials. They have a Friday night tournament, but it looks like you'll be missing that.

I'd love to meet you there, but unfortunately I'm on the other side of the world.:)

Alternatively, you can go to Sharkey's in Waukesha http://www.sharkeysbarandgrill.com/. That will be closer to brookfield (and is my hometown). The tables are horrible (neglected GC3s and unwashed balls), but there is a pretty good tournament there on Thursday nights. $20 handicapped, you can find action if you want it afterwards too, but ask early 'cause nobody sticks around. Be warned, it gets really loud. It's a hangout for the angry local 20-30 crowd, so there is a DJ and dancing as the night wears on.

Good luck. Where are you coming from?

When I go to Milwaukee I always go to Romines on 27th Street. Good atmosphere, good equipment, and while I haven't been there in a couple of years there were always some real players in the room. I remember a few years ago watching Cliff Joyner play one of the locals (don't remember his name) and it was a real match. Cliff couldn't give too much weight. I don't know Lennys. Have fun and don't forget they have some great restaurants too.

Romine's for sure!

Head over to Romine's on south 27th street. Unless it changed VERY recently, Lenny's(which was the original Romine's) is not the safest place to go. I cannot tell you from personal observation, but when I spoke with Terry Romine, he advised against me going there anymore. Crime rate in that area after dark is not good at all. My best friend who is in Milwaukee works for the police department there and confimed that. I used to work there at night back in '79-'81 and it was okay, but now, I probably would not go there without my friend on the police force right next to me. Would probably ask if he has a spare bulletproof vest too. Stick wth the room on south 27th street, lots of tables, plenty of video screens for televised events, good food and a dance floor, if you're so inclined.

Thanks for the heads up. I really appreciate the help from all.

Bad places reminds me of a situation I ran into around 5 years ago. I ended up in Bakersfield one night meeting a RSB'er and the place we had met before had to close because the guy tending bar had a heart attack when we were there. So he took me to a place that he said he usually goes to. I got on one of the bar box tables and was doing pretty well holding it for buck games. This cracked up kid comes to the table and states he wants to play. I told him we were playing buck games and he said he wanted to play for 5. I said that was fine and we started to play. After a couple of innings I got down on a straight in 8. This guy that could not sit still in his chair screams out. We are playing bank the 8. I told him that was bullsh*t because we never stated it before the game. We went back and forth a few times and looking @ the table I knew he couldn't run out. So I tried for the bank and missed. He hit a couple of balls and missed. I had a cross side that was perfect. I got down on the shot and he runs up and bends down and said "you make this and you wont leave the parking lot". I stopped and looked @ him and said "What?" He leans in and says it again. I said "for 5 bucks?". He said "You heard me". I took the 5 bucks out and laid it on the table and unscrewed my cue. He said what are you doing? I told him that if 5 bucks was that important to him that he probably needed it more than me. I told the guy that took me there what happened and he said that guy is nuts and he probably would have followed through. We left the place without incident but the look in that nutjobs eye really had me concerned. It really is that incident that stops me from gambling a lot times.

Some people.

Just about a month back we had an "interesting" group of people show up in our local pool hall. These "wannabe gangsters" were being rather roudy and basically taking up three tables because it was impossible to play on one of the tables on either side of them.

So, my buddy who is a better player than I comes up to me with a proposition, he'd been watching them and knew that we could hustle them out of there, but he needed me to back him as he was broke. We decide to grab the table right next to them, and after one game of us just banging balls around we hit one of them (this guy had a hat on that actually said "hustler" ) up for a money game, too easy hehe.

I talked him into a race to three for $25, big money right, we didn't even worry about spotting it (Big Mistake) After the first game he loses and asks if he can have his friend shoot for him, we knew my guy could beat any one of them so we said we didn't care.

In the end we won 3-1, cause my guy scratched on the 8. So we ask him to pay up, he says he doesn't have it and just sits there quiet. At this point everyone else in the pool hall knew exactly what we were doing, and wanted them gone too, so other people start yelling, and telling them they can't stiff us. We tell him he should quit being a poser and ditch the "hustler" hat, and he tells us that he is a hustler and that hustlers always make money whether they have it or not.

So, we begin to explain to him that he obviously isn't a hustler because he didn't make any money and instead only succeeded in making a fool of himself. At this points all of his "friends" are pissed at him because he is making a fool of them too! So he gets upset and goes off saying that we weren't worth sh!t and that if we were we would be able to throw down some "real money". To this I look at him and tell him if he could spot it on the light he would have a $200 dollar on his hands. His response? "If you threw out 200 I'd go out to my ride, get my piece, and bust a cap in your a$$" I just looked at him and said "In this place, that would be about the dumbest thing you could do"

At that point we were done exchanging words, his "friends" flat out asked if they could "kick it with us" because we were cool guys, and the "hustler" was left sitting by his lonesome. 10 minutes later I heard the "hustler" on the phone trying to get a ride, so he obviously had no "ride" and no "piece". So, overall we succeeded in our goal, because within 20 minutes they were all gone, and have yet to show their faces again. Still I was pretty uneasy walking out of the pool hall that night. :o

Lessons learned? First, always have both parties spot their money. Second, choose parties that you decide to gable with carefully, a little money game can quickly become a big deal!
