Some people were giving me helpful advice on shooting straight-in shots (and alignment in general). I often use shots along the diagonal for practice. I'm somewhat embarrassed to reveal that part of my problem was not aiming for the exact center of the pocket opening from that perspective. I guess I've been playing on some loose tables lately!
Perhaps a "duh!" is in order, but maybe that will be a helpful reminder to someone (I'm only an APA 5, cut me some slack). I believe it was Bob Jewett who suggested marking the center of the pockets as a drill to make sure you're hitting it right, apparently I needed a review of that lesson.
