Lesson with Dallas West Report

Nice report Lou. I have several of Dallas' Accustates tapes and he is such a super 14.1 technical player. It's interesting that a friend of mine took a 14.1 lesson from Deliberto and Danny said the same thing about chipping away at the rack, and never blasting them wide open. It's old school staight pool and is a beautiful thing to watch when played correctly.

Since this is the straight pool forum, perhaps you would be so kind as to hint what Dallas said was the key to going from a 70 ball runner to the next level. :)

By the way, what does Dallas charge for lessons...you can pm me if you like.

Regards,

Doug

Doug, Dallas charges $100 an hour, but he can be very gracious about that. At the end of the lesson he offered me a deal and I took it and tipped back an additional $50.

About the next level thing: of all the things Dallas taught me that day, that was the one thing I felt, for whatever reason, he was telling me in confidence. I don't know why I feel that way other than perhaps the way he said it, so I'm going to keep mum on that.

My general feeling about this is that it is somewhat unfair to to take a lesson and publish it wholesale. Kinda like going to a movie or seminar that you've paid to get into, taping it, and then throwing it out on the internet. Or maybe buying and reading an instructional book -- that does not give me the right to reproduce and distribute it in its entirety. IMO, that is close to stealing. In my report I've tried to give everyone a fair sense of what a lesson with Dallas was like without revealing every little tidbit and hope that some will avail themselves of the opportunity to seek him out, like Dennis.

Dallas, and other masters of the game, have a wealth of hard-earned knowledge to share, and I think they should get paid for sharing it. But that's just me.

Lou,

I think the charges are very reasonable considering the caliber of instructer.

Regarding the next level stuff....I respect the fact that you spent good money for "personal" instruction. In retrospect, I'm sorry that I asked since I'm sure that I would feel the same. I apologize.

The time is quickly coming that I will make the pilgrimage out to John Schmidt, West, or somebody of like caliber to help me tune up my game. I had some intruction one time from a top level one pocket player for about 20 minutes. The lesson was free, but the knowledge that I gleaned helped my game immensely. There was one thing that he said that literally made me a ball better instantly.

Anway, congratulations on having a fantastic experiance.

Your average local golf professional who has never even played in a PGA event usually charges 75-125/hr so Dallas West is a bargain. Same thing for Ray Martin, Danny D., etc...
