What do you think is the proper way to level slate on a three piece pool table?Any of you have any tricks or is there any wrong or wright way where to start?What kind of leveles would you use?I level the base first then start with a end piece of slate and level them with a Starett level.Any suggestions?

You have to level the frame first with a normal carpenter level. I like to use the wedge shims, they look like door stoppers. You can just hammer them in with a hammer.
Then you start leveling the slate on the high side. If you don't start on the high side you will get to the other side and run out of room. Level the high slate, then the middle slate, then the other slate. Get it all level before you screw it down. Then screw it down and check if it's level again. You can make minor adjustments by tightening and losening the screws. Make sure you put the shims right next to the screws or the slate will bend.
Put some beezwax or rock hard putty on the seem. I prefer beezwax, it's much easier. All you need is a torch and a good paint scraper.
Most guys I know use either a 12" or 18" starrett level. You can not get the slate level with a normal carpenter's level. Every spot on the slate should be within 2 lines (preferrably 1) on the starrett level. The closer you can get the better. But it is not always possible to get it perfectly level.
Check it again before you put the cloth on. Put the rails on and it should be ready to go. Takes me about 5 minutes to level my table
