LF: Opinions on Olhausen Tables

I believe that Real King Cobra has mentioned that 1 5/8 is as low as you can go with the k-66 profile. Any lower, and the ball will not rebound correctly. An exception is the Accufast cushion, which was designed with the intent of using a 1 1/2" rail core, but I don't think it is really a k-66 profile.

I recently restored an Olhausen 8' OS table and per RKC's feedback, I used k-66 profile cushions (Artemis Pool 66 to be exact). My nose height came out perfectly.

I'm pretty sure the Accufast cushions are just a slightly modified k-66 profile. The top profile is flatter so that the top of the cushion doesn't stick up higher than the top of the rail. You can see from my third pic that the swell at the top of the Artemis cushion is slightly higher than the surface of the rail...

I've always wondered why other manufacturers don't have lower rails - it seems like a clear playing advantage to me. Is there some disadvantage to lower rails (other than making "standard" rails more difficult for you because you're not used to them)?

I was under the impression that the accufast cushions were designed to play on a thinner rail that would be cheaper to produce. they also have smaller rail bolts, plywood frameliners, thinner frames and something alot of top players refer to as the "Olhausen death rattle." that being said, I do like that there made in the USA.

Interesting...on the Olhausen site, they claim to be a true k-66, which should make them interchangable. But here is a 12/9/2006 quote form a post by RKC:

How thick are your rails? 1 3/4in? 1 5/Th's? 1 1/IN? Because if it's an Olhousen table...you can't put K66 or k55 rubber on it...it would never play right. If it has k66 and you want to switch to k55...you have to change the bevel of the rail to match the different rubber...same goes for changing from k55 to k66.

Now I'm confused. Is there something about Artemis and Accufast that make them useable on a 1.5" rail, while other k-66's wil fail?

My 2 cents

I own a Olhausen with Accu-Fast cushions. It plays great. I feel that there are two draw backs to them.

The first is "Olhausen rattle". It is caused by the angle of the pockets, the angle of the pocket facings and the deep shelf. The rattle happens when the OB contacts the rail on the way in when hit at higher than pocket speed (which is slower than most other tables).

The second issue is the rebound speed of the rails. The slower speed of the rails is only an issue with me when I am playing at a hall that has Diamonds or GC's. It takes a while for me to adjust to the speed.

The rails play true on a Olhausen's. When practicing kicking, banking, diamond sytems or SID systems I only have to make small adjustments (if any at all) to adjust for the bank angles. But, because of the number of halls the have Diamond tables, I feel that I'm at a disadvantage when playing on them due to the tendancy of the Diamond tables to bank short.

I do not regret purchasing a Olhausen table. I would recommend them for anyone that wants a furniture grade table in their home. Furthermore, they are made in USA (Portland, Tn.). I know that this is a sore subject for some, but I try to by USA or USA labor made products when possible.

I am not bashing Diamond tables. In fact, my next table will be a Diamond Proffessional. I feel that I need to practice on them to improve my game. The hall I play out of has Olhausens so, right now I rarely get to practice on other tables.

I hope this helps some.

I have an 8 foot pro Olhausen Remington. I really like the way it plays, but have also noticed that the corner pockets rattle a ton of balls. Other than that, no complaints. But when I was buying it I was comparing it to other furniture style tables, not diamonds or GCs. My wife said go with furniture style, so that limited my search. I like the idea that they were made in America, and you seemed to get a little more for your cash than with a brunswick home table. It also seemed like there were a lot of customizaton options.

Diamond makes home table also. One of the best home tables on the market. Very sturdy frame design, every part has a serial number, made in the US and plays like a Diamond. Reasonable priced around $3000.
