I use a tip that ive always liked, last time I purchased and had it installed the tip feels drier, harder and doesn't hold chalk well at all, is there a tip expiration/use-before-date on these things?? its a laminated tip. I have a suspicion they had it in their shop past their due date. it is leather after all, leather dries out eventually. anything??

I once had half a moori fly off after a fresh installation before.

perhaps the aluminium foil was not airtight in storage.

The equipment they use to seal them are intended for sealing medicine (pills). Could have failed but was more likely due to a defective tip. Just the thought of them being sealed individually fresh at the factory seems like a good thing. Problem is, I never have them around long enough and can't afford to stock up.

Friend of mine put on a new tip, played 2 racks with it, took off a few layers, played another 2 racks, then replaced the tip. Did not live long.

I don't know but I just threw out a box of Triangle tips. I just opened it and every tip was like a sponge. I was surprised to find a date on the bottom of the box. It said 2/27/96 Pretty old box. I wonder why they date the box like that?

I think you just answered your own question.

Did you think about using them to make Milk Duds?

Leather doesn't last forever.

Traditional leather tips will dry out over time. New laminated layered tips seem to last longer, but I've had bad experiences with even a few year old laminated tip.
