Lighting Help PLEASE!!!

A friend of mine is in the process of opening a new room. The tables he ordered arrived today and although they are not GC's or Diamonds they are not bad tables. I shot a few games on them this evening just to check them.

He owns his own building and bought 5 Olhausen tables but did no get any lights. He has 3 8ft and 2 7ft. tables. He wants to put lights over the tables without spending a bundle. His goal is to run with these tables for a year or so and upgrade as profit allows. So, what do you guys suggest as proper lighting here. He does not want the 3-4 bulb shade style lights either. We have held up 4ft flourescents over the table and they do not seem to put out enough light. However, are the fluorescents the solution and they need to set in a box or what?

All suggestions are appreciated. I am trying to help him get this room completely open by this time next week.

Flourescents are the only way to go. I have a 9' Gold Crown, and a GC light. It has eight four foot tubes, and does a great job. No shadows. At the end of the day it's just a 9' box with 8 tubes in it, and that white plastic grid. I think you could build them for $300 bucks each. They won't be as fancy, but I bet they would work just as well.
 
What he said above except get the chrome grid at Home Depot it really helps the shadows and does not yellow in a few years like the white plastic. I and a friend have built two of the full size lights the same size as the playing surrface 100 inches by 50 inches and they work great. My cost four months ago for materials was around $350 each.

I agree with the 8 tube lights. With eight tubes you won't have any shadow problems.
 
From The Desk Of The Master Electrician

Build a box to house (2) eight foot tandem flourescent fixtures with T8 electronic ballasts. Each fixture will need (4) 4 foot T8 lamps. Make sure they are cool white lamps. Mount the completed fixture exactly 4 feet above the playing surface of the table and use the chrome plated plastic honey combed covers. I guarantee you won't have any shadowing. Using the 4 foot lamps will give you a couple advantages. They are easier to store them. If one lamp burns out the whole fixture doesn't go out. They give quite a bit more illumination than 8 foot tubes. Also make sure when you store flourescent lamps to lay them flat. Standing them upright allows the phosporus powder to settle to the bottom of the tube causing premature failure. Paul

I have some for sale, they are made very well from wood and hold four 4 foot bulbs. Very bright, they were used over 9ft gold crowns and there were no shadows. Painted a nice burgandy outside, white inside to cast the light. I have 5 of these. Pic here is the lights upside down where I have them stored. Asking $200 each shipped. PM me if interested.

goddamn, lightning help you should have, but i am too late..

if it is of any help, i got 3x800W in my wardrobe (j/k ov coars)
