When I lived in San Francisco I played at Town and Country at night. Action, action, action.
When it was early during the day, I used to go to Delberts to vist Glen and Gerda. Some days there was some early action. Mostly it was Gerda practicing on table three for eight hours a day. She had a routine of drills she would do first and then she would play nine ball. After I got to know her a little, I talked to her about playing banks and one pocket. Like most nine play players, it was at first, why? Try it and see. So she would practice with Glen before the place opened and then after she started to enjoy it more and saw the benefits, she would play different players for a few dollars. $50-100 sets. She would play some of the better players, never weak players. The lawyer, the guy that refinished collector tables, etc. The main thing is, the practicing. Just about every day, in the morning until six in the evening.
Since I play like crap, (that's actually a high opinion of how I play now), I have been practicing. What I start out with is some shots I had trouble with in a session the day before. Or just some difficult shots to find the aiming point. Then I will switch to about five or six balls in nine ball, my thinking is that if I cannot run out the last five or six, I shouldn't be gambling.
After that, is 14-1. Trying to run at least thirty before stopping. Then on to some banks, speed control and spin.
Because of the medications I live on these days, I have a tendency to overheat and get sweaty. It's a big problem for me because I can't go from hot to cold, to playing again. My body locks up if I cool off. I have always hated practicing, now even though I may practice for an hour or so at the most, I feel it is actually helping me with my mental game.
I have always said that if you can beat someone with your mental game, then that is sixty percent of the match. Plus I have an "eveil eye" to put on my opponents. You guys have no chance, unless .................
