Lil Help!!

My main instrument is guitar. But like most musicians I know, I play a little bit of everything. Drums, piano, bass. Came up in the Tempe music scene in the 90’s. Sucks to get old. 😎

Rush holds a special place in my heart because the very first garage band I ever saw was a Rush tribute band. I was in middle school and the band guys were high school dudes. We used to listen to the drummer practice from the alley. He would put on the album and just blow our minds in that he hit every single note/tone/nuance/beat. It inspired me to learn to play.

Real enough. Respect.

Peart, adequate?!? Um no. IMHO he proved that the idiophone is a compositional instrument and his contribution to music is beyond reproach. He is the original math rock drummer. And there is no doubt that Anika is Kill-ing-it!

The Percussionist supreme. Just ask his contemporaries.

This in the context of Rush dun exactly come up with Mozart. He took the quantity approach with a zillion sounds and in all fairness, power trios take a whole lot more crafting than extra glitz and odd constructs. What can I say? The critic angle is mostly hype to me.

Incidentally, the rest of the music world has been busy crafting the music of rhythm for centuries.
I enjoy classical as I was exposed to it early playing an instrument. No comparison.
I like fried chicken, but I'm not thinking about it while enjoying my ice cream. If somebody were to mention it, might just kill my appetite. 😣

Saw the boys in Tulsa in '81 during the MovingPictures tour. We had KMOD tickets and i could literally touch Geddy's mike stand. The first band 86'd so Rush played almost 3hrs with two breaks. My ears rang for three days.
They always brought it.

When I'm working any concert I make darn certain that I've got at least 2-4 pairs of foam ear plugs and that I have a pair of them in a pants pocket just in case the sound check starts early .

I lost some of my hearing in one ear when a speaker blew up as I was walking past it at a Blue Oyster Cult concert while I was working front of the stage security .
Hey Rusty, did you ever handle Rush??

Me too. Not a stoned hippie 'zall.

Did you come up with a pool itinerary?

The name slips me, but it's a pure one pocket room all black, run and owned/by a white man who tolerates no BS and knows ALL the Chi town players., I was there a few yrs back, it's fun and safe and no bs or ''pants hangin down''. and the brothers are always barkin' at each other in a ''good way''. It's where Ek plays and I forget the skinny older black man thats there the plays for his living and a very good 1 pkt player. Also if your in the area, a restaurant called Russells BBQ off n ave. by Maywood park horse race track? My parents used to date there and the BBQ is to be remembered, been there over 100 yrs now.
Thanks for the tip. I'll look around. We have time.

The first tour for Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood or I should say the first time they preformed at Metra Park , the crowd noise was just over 140 decibels ! I was the main spot op for both Garth and Trisha , my first call was to pick up / hit Garth Brooks as he came up through the floor of the stage while playing a piano and wearing his signature black hat !

No ghosting or a slow fade in with the light ! So it was shoot from the hip after saying a prayer or two ! Ha ha
I made that shot so to speak 6 for 6 I was so proud of myself ! Ha ha

I also started wearing ear plugs under the ear muffs of my Dave Clark headset which is the same as what fighter jet pilots wear or commercial pilots .
Didn't you say he had more gear than any other band you worked?? A country star!! Whodathunkit.

Yes to all to varying degrees. Reading at sight is like speed reading. Very few are locked into it. Same with writing; like most musicians, a paragraph, a page or two, many many melodies, solid content is tedious and a chore to me - just not there.

from the wings:
Yeah so how TF are you on all this Rush suks BS like you invented the shit?

See? I can have this argument all by myself. :ROFLMAO:
Wow!! You're bilingual!! Whodathunkit. I'm not worthy.

Cool. What do you play?

Virtuosity? Umm this one's more objective. The ins and outs of playing have more or less been covered and polished by the legit guys. Rock bands are bangers (literally, in many cases) by comparison.

I like a wide range of stuff too but now it's for their pay @ their price. Bang for the buck, can't beat Bach, Beethoven, Brahms.
True, and for the most part agee w you, but I need a bit more bang to my head than that nowadays. I enjoy metal on a different level than classical.

Yes I've worked a Rush Concert many years ago , as for Garth Brooks he has 22 semi trucks and trailers for all of his stage , sound and lighting equipment and wardrobe including merchandise .

The load,in,is a well oiled machine so to speak with a person telling you where every road crate needs to go then putting the "dead cases " out of the way and in order so the load out goes smoothly is vitally important as good reviews travel around quickly but bad ones travel even faster !

My local has received way more positive things said than negative .

Walking With Dinosaurs was the largest production show in the world with 25 or 26 semi trucks and trailers , one dinosaur filled a 54' trailer all by itself . During all the performances there wasn't anyone up wandering around in any of the 9 performances unless it was intermission or at the end of each show !
There were more points cable for the chain motors that lifted the set , sound and lights from one end to another and then some of a full hockey rink that was one of my favorite shows that I've worked !
So if you ever get the chance to attend it get on the phone and reserve tickets as they sell out fast , not Garth Brooks fast over 12,000 tickets sold in less than 30 minutes ! But very close !

I bought Rush presale in October last year. Will say they are the most expensive tics I've ever bought. I wanted good seats, if I'm travelling, might as well go all out, but damn!!! Never thot I'd pay what I did. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Spilt milk
