I was looking at Roy Steffenson's profile and came across the website www.147.no. And I thought it was a very well put together site, with videos, and player bios, with more things to come. Then I came across the blog of pro player Line Kjorsvik. In her opening statement regarding a qualifier she had to participate in she referred to billiards in the United States like this, "After a few years away from the "pool billiard circus" in the US." This to me was incredibly interesting. It made me wonder if about the landscape of pool around the world and its view of pool in the United States.

I understand that nobody can speak for another person. Therefore I won't ask what Line meant, or for other to speculate on what she meant. However, outside of her feelings personally, have other AZers encountered this attitude/opinion regarding professional pocket billiards in the united states that is similiar to, "it being a circus" from people outside the US? And again I want to be clear that this thread in no way is intended to bash, or belittle a professional players character or opinion. Hell I agree with her. I just found it interesting that things we complain about on here everyday is also felt by people who are really affected by things, things that wont ever effect our pocket books, but are just annoyances and frustrations to us.

several times I've met an expression "pool circuit". I think that was probably what Line meant to write but perhaps some lack of English led her to such sort of a misprint of such a type. I'm sure she didn't want to sound offensive.

btw, when I read notes at Ralf Souquet's site, he always refers to a break when he didn't make a ball as a "black break". I always thought it is normally called "blank break"? May be it is just anothe example of a misunderstanding by a foreigner, or such breaks are really black for Ralf :)

I dont think she meant circuit, but maybe she did, who knows.

No, I don't think she meant circuit at all - but I'll ask her.

Hi.

I'm glad you found the web-site 147.no and that you liked it so far. It is still not completely finished, but we are getting there.

As for the article I wrote;

I wrote the article in Norwegian, it was translated for the web-site. I have to say that the way it is written suites the Norwegian language better than the English. There are just some words and phrases that get a little lost in translation.

I am familiar with the expression "pool circuit", but in this article I ment circus. It was used as a ”fun” expression for the readers back home, said with a little ironic tone of voice. But it is not an expression I would limit only to the American pool scene.

I hope that answers your questions.

Keep shooting,

Thank you Line for taking the time out of your schedule to answer address my post. Although I have not seen you play, I have no doubts you are a joy to watch around the table. You used the expression correctly, and accurately! I hope someday the world pool scene will put away the elephants, clowns, and trapeze acts and make a unified world pool association where professionals like yourself can make the money they deserve. And once again thanks for your comments!

Thank you Line, and hope to see you posting here in the forum more often :) Good luck!
