I have customer with a meucci that wants the wrap replaced. the wrap has a clearcoat or epoxy finish over it. My question is there a safe way to cut the old wrap off without damaging the finish on the butt? Customer doesn.t want to recondition the shaft completely. Any input/insight would be greatly appreciated. thanks cribbeecues

THANKS jOE FOR THE INFO, I MAY NOT HAVE BEEN CLEAR IN THAT THE WHOLE BUTT HAS THE EPOXY FROM JOINT TO BUMPER, CONTINUING OVER THE WRAP. WAS AFRAID IF I CUT THE WRAP OFF IT WOULD CHIP THE FINISH ON THE STICK AND I WOULD BE STUCK WITH A REFINISH JOB THE CUSTOMER DOES NOT WANT TO PAY FOR. CRIBBEECUES

On the Meucci wraps that I have replaced. I started in the middle and worked my way out to the edges. Once I get close to the edge, I scored the finish with a razor if it needed it. Some of the cues already had a break in the finish at both ends of the wrap and I didn't need to do anything different from any other wrap removal. May not be the best way but has worked for me.

I have done several of them and I put it in the lathe and take a sharp single point tool and ease it through the finish right at the two edges while turning the cue by hand. A good sharp thin cutoff blade works great just turn the cue slowly and feed the crosslide slowly and it will leave a great edge that you don't have to do any thing to.--Leonard

I hope that you dont think that I was being sarcastic. I never scored anything on the ones that I have done.. And there has been no chipping of the finish whats so ever either..

Thanks joe & leonard for the input. Cut off tool worked great. No damage to the finish whatsoever. Customer was extremely pleased. Cribbeecues
