I have a couple of questions regarging live tooling and the applications. I have always used hand tap on butts and shafts with some success and I mean just some. I think I figured out the problem and that is my workpiece is not held perfectly straight in the lathe. Im not sure the room for error but it cant be much. I have a tiawan lathe and its OK but Ive had to shim it here and there and still its not perfectly accurate. Anyway I have a threading bit and router mounted to the tool post and Ive practiced on a couple of pieces of wood boring the hole running in the bit, bringing it toward me the depth of the thread and backing it out the pitch of the thread, in my case 10 tpi. Im getting burning on the threads. I would appreciate any help with this or some suggestions. Thanks
