Lizard Wrap stickiness

Hi guys..

Recently i've been presented with this new problem on my play cue. I got a real lizard wrap installed a few weeks ago.. and its been playing fine till recently. There seems to be this weird stickiness over the wrap. It could be because i've sweaty palms, but for the past few weeks its been bearable. Only recently its gotten bad..

does anyone have any advice or suggestions on solutions i can use to get rid of this feeling?

Would using a shoe polish such as Kiwi (brush over the wrap then wiping off the excess) be of any help or damage the wrap?

Regards,
Alex

Have you ask the person that installed the wrap this question? Advice that you get in a forum might not be consistent with the installers recommendations.

Lizard wraps are dyed and finished. I'm sure there are different finishing processes or materials used by various companies. Shoe polish may not be compatible with all leather or skin finishes.

It does sound like your sweaty hands are attacking the finish though.

which brings me to another problem. The cuemaker mentioned using this product called LeatherPlex by Karseal to treat the leather occasionally. The problem is that i can't seem to find any information about this product on the internet...

anyone can help by telling me what on earth this is and how do i get it? :D

Sorry can't find and never heard of the product your looking for, They make a Karseal wax and cloth for conditioning the shaft but nothing listed for the wrap. Most of my customers that sweat usually use saddle soap and then mink oil to condition their lizard wraps. Try emailing Jack Justice cases, he knows more about leather than anyone I know.

Thanks for your help! basically the saddle soap cleans off all the dirt and the mink oil leaves a layer over the wrap?

Exactly, just remember a little goes a long way, small amounts on a paper towel.

Let me try and locate the mink oil first.. :D i haven't exactly found any such products around here..

in place of the saddle soap would it be sufficient if i use something like pledge leather cleaner? basically i need to get rid of the dirt/chalk/grime off the wrap first, isn't it?

Alex, did you have any trouble adjusting to the basic
feel of the lizard wrap? I recently bought a Mottey with
a lizard wrap. I love the look but I just can't get used
to shooting with it.

Dear hondo,

not really.. for the first 2 weeks i absolutely loved the hit of the cue with the new lizard wrap. Its just that recently it started getting real tacky and uncomfortable.

However, i tried the mink oil and it seriously works... feels slightly icky at the beginning (perhaps i'm not cleaning off ALL the residual oil before playing) but after a while it gets ok..

thanks for the help guys!! Duly appreciated!!

Mike

Gave this method a try on my lizard wrap and it worked great.
Just a little bit of rubbing and all the blue chalk came right out of the wrap and with the mink oil really shines like new.

Again thank you very much,
Myron
