Guys this would be for local players, roughly APA 3-7 with a few 8 & 9s scattered in. This is not for the scuffling short stops and pros in the weeds.
I am looking at setting up some local tournaments at a great room, and have some ideas I wanted your thoughts on.
Probably 2-3 tournaments a week. Run them on the dead nights, Sunday through Thursday. Maybe another one during the weekend starting around noon.
I want to bring back proper rules, etiquette and fair handicapping.
I want to start the evening tournaments at 7pm sharp.
6-ball, race to 7, double elimination. I am leaning towards a "mini 10-ball" tournament for at least one. This would be 6-ball, racked with the 1,2,3 on the corners and the 10 in the center of the last row. It should help with soft breaks and clusters that slow down normal 9-ball tournaments.
-winner or loser breaks?
-break box?
-3-foul?
Would there be interest in a One Pocket, $10 entry, race to 3 single elimination tournament?
- handicapped, higher player goes to 8, lower player adjusted up. IE: a 7 playing a 5 plays 8-6, first to win 3 games.
- is a race to 3 too long? Would race to 2 be better? Could we race to 2 and do double elim?
-is there a way to speed things up, maybe play on a 10-ball rack?
I would also like to consider a couple options for a "once a month" like an "Open" 10-ball, one pocket, 9-ball, 8-ball, with a $20 entry. Maybe a longer race handicapped 9 ball. Something to make this the place to play every weekend.
- will an open tournemant be too easy to poach or will it foster competition and locals "growing a set"?
- Do local players get excited about mini "points series" and "tournament of champions" like they used to?
Thanks in advance....
