Long nose live center

It's not listed on the box, but it's an import from somewhere. Unfortunatly I cannot justify the cost for an american one just to turn wood. I like to buy american when I can, but $60 verses $250.... no brainer for me.

Understood. If American, a downright steal. Given the stated tolerance, still a good buy and perfect for our application.

If anyone wants an inexpensive long nose live center, I found this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-2MT-0-0.../230868465674?ssPageName=ADME:X:BOCOR:US:1123

Works great. I bought 2 and they are deadnuts acurrate. Not bad for the money. The narrow dia. gives more room for the router bit when doing shafts. I don't have to worry as much about hitting the metal with the bit anymore.
Dave

I bought one like that and it never spun very freely. Who knows where it was made in China... 1000 factories make basically the same thing. Some are good and some are not.. I threw mine in the trash..

Every time the local pool hall owner shows me some new made in China cue(that he paid next to nothing for) I have to remind myself of the fact most of my tools were made there.

In fact, I have to think HARD about something I own that was NOT made in another country....

That 60.00 versus 250 logic applies to cues as well. ALOT of APA players see it the same way....

We did it to ourselves...

MY HOUSE!!

MADE IN USA DURING THE 50'S!!!!!

Well, I tested both centers I bought, as I have had the same as you said, get it and it dont turn well, or not at all. I was lucky that time, the ebayer gave me a refund without even taking the original back. This guy seems to have great stuff, so, based on my experience of these 2 items, I think it's a good deal. It's unfortunate that buying american is soooo expensive when it doesn't have to be. Cut out the union dues, manditory retirement contributions by the company, 95% of healthcare premiums paid by the company, keeping people that can't function most of the time, paying for rehab for those same people etc.. when they should just fire people that don't do their job, and low and behold....they will produce a decent product that is affordable, like it used to be. But that's another discussion in another sub-forum...:) for another day.

American products were never over priced when we were producing the best quality and not sub-farming out the manufacturing to 3rd world countries. The product was affordable because more people were employed making decent wages and even had some jingle in their pockets to buy custom made cues. You can blame unions, lazy people, the un-employed or whoever else you would like to throw under the bus, but the only people who are truly to blame are the greedy manufacturing owners who saw a new avenue opened up by the federal government to manufacturer outside the US with low import taxes. Please don't look at the small pieces because the bigger picture is the culprit.

Personally I am upset the Federal Government has sold out our own country so the top 10% can continue to capitalize on out of country manufacturing.

However, like you stated, this belongs in another sub-forum...

Great post Snap. Attacking the Union had no business in this forum.

I see that some people may have been offended by my union comments, but from where I see things in my enviroment, that is the way it looks so thats the way I call it, whether it's popular or not. Lets just agree to disagree and move onward.

As long as it is civil, why the heck not? It is evident this tool is hit or miss. Case closed on it..

I knew a PORTER(he drives BMW's off a ship...hard job) who made over 125k a year(10 years ago!) because of the Union. Think UAW didn't help bankrupt USA car makers? Ask the laid off janitor who made 65k.

However, 2 words can encapsulate what happened and continues to happen in America.

American GREED.

As long as the guys behind the big desks make 9 figures, they can care less who gets shite on. Want proof? It took me FIFTY minutes to get my network password from ATT the other night. FFS, they couldn't even find me a direct number for the tech support line! I wasn't even on hold very long(out of the 6 times I had to call and was rerouted to wrong place or accidentally hung up on).

How about the same company whose software has been broken for YEARS that could resolve the same issue if it worked? How about some updated software that can cross populate a screen? "You need my name and info AGAIN?" , "Yes, for security purposes", "But your aren't even the department I need to talk to", "Doesn't matter", "Aren't they going to ask me the same questions?", "Yes, for security purposes"

Can we keep it civil?

I was civil and have no hard feelings with anyone on this forum. Why ruin a useful forum with political bs when there is a forum for such banter?

Sorry if I have offended anyone.

There is nothing funny about the downfall of the Big Three or the GREED of American banking. THAT is just a couple of examples...

After what happened with Wall Street, I realize it will never change but I enjoy a discussion once in awhile to help vent steam.

If noone chooses to participate, the thread will go away. If it really bothers you that much, report it....

Attack the union all you want, just please don't do it in the cue machinery and supplies section. I'm looking for machinery and supplies and don't have the time to read through opinions on unions.
thanks, your thoughts are well taken, just not here.

Where should it be posted then? When the price of doing a hobby is beyond our reach if we buying american,.... one has to wonder why? How can someone buy an import cheaper that what is made right here? Is it because our asking price for the american product is too high to begin with? Sometimes the truth is too big for most to bear. No one wants to hear that we have to pay a crapload of our pay to buy a product that the largest percentage of that cost is to mainly support an institution that only exists to protect it's self, not the overall american worker. Do the research on the conventions and meetings these unions have in cities like Las Vegas, who pays for that? not to mention all the large political contributions these unions make...where does that money come from I wonder.....oh off the backs of their workers dues and the increased cost of the final products. If the cost of making something is increased, so is the final asking price....simple economics.
I agree with Randy, but will take it a bit further, ALL Americans are greedy, workers included, to do as little as possible, for as big of a paycheck as possible, regardless of the final product.
I posted this ebay deal to help other's like myself that need a product that cannot afford the american alternatives. A $250 mt-2 live center is beyond reasonable. Quality is fine, but at what price?
In order for this country to get back on track is for the buyers to get smarter and demand a better PRICE and PRODUCT of our own industry, if that means paycuts, it is still better than no pay at all, as these imports aren't going to stop anytime soon. Don't give the opposition an opening, then they can't exploit it. They wouldn't be able to cut our prices if they weren't too high already...Think about the whole thing before responding based on a knee jerk response. To me, the "cost of cue machinery discussion" does belong in a cue machinery section, I maybe wrong...have been before, but don't think so at this time...
This is my final post here, it wasn't meant to turn out this way, but...it is what it is...

Did you get to the part where the live centers are hit or miss?

Being in a hurry to buy things will get you into ALOT of trouble(I speak from experience). I've heard impatience and cuebuilding don't go well together either.

If you are looking for something specific, let me suggest a wanted ad?
