I was asked to go play somewhere else a few times

When I was on vacation in the Philippines, one of the bars had a table that was a winner stays on. Loser paid for the game (like 50 cents) and there
Was a challenge list on the chalkboard. The policy was if you won more than a certain number of games in a row the bar bought you a beer and your name went to the bottom of the list. I thought it was a cool system.

They also had a rule that if the wait list got too long they paired you with the guy behind you on the list and it was scotch doubles.

Back somewhere around 94-ish, my roommate & I used to often hold one of the tables at the Camp Schwab E-club on Friday nights from around a half-hour after liberty call til close, playing doubles 8-ball for pitchers of beer. Not sure how much relevance that has, but it was fun to remember.

Sometimes, it's just hard to fathom anyone holding a table an hour.
Yet, I would go by that table from the 1st post, and the same guy was still on it.
I knew him, he went from between Indiana and Ocala, FL.

To think that you can't make one mistake that would cost you the game, or get the rolls for that long is just crazy.
Plus what about something that hasn't been mentioned Stamina...

Saw someone at the Valley state tournament hold the $20 challenge table for half a day.
These are races to 1 in 8 ball.

What have you seen?

All nighters now and then. When you're trolling the bar scene, you see this happen. Or did, back in the day.
Eventually nobody puts any more quarters up. You gotta dump one now and then or keep it real close when you're farming the bars. Hiding speed becomes necessary. You get good at missing and double position when needed.
Haven't had to farm bars for awhile. Kinda miss it when I'm in my cups.

I didn't think of it as missing on purpose. It was more about control of the battle field. It's colateral that they think I missed a shot when the cueball resting spot was my primary goal. Using leverage in a jiu-jitsu like manner can keep them thinking that "I just got lucky". Oh yeah Efren said that a lot.

Passing through Williams, AZ on the way to Vegas. Some bar with a couple tables I was "king of the hill" for a couple hours, playing with a bar cue, against some weak locals, no real money involved but I had a great time.

How do you play 5 ball?

I have never heard of that game. It does make me think of the unusual Saturday game. It was called Whacky 9 ball. Or colloquially Whack In Off. Playing the object ball to hit the cue ball and go in off. So yeah it was whack in off that
Had the double entandra Whacking off.
A dollar on the 9 as a ring game. It was hard to lose much in a session. There was Always the story of the time somebody ran a rack. That was back in aught six. I was the black hat guy that disrespected the sanctity of the game and splashed the cash primarily. Making another would have been to move the cueball to a better angle to whack the 9 ball. I made money with my method.
Ah the double edged sword shots were respected. Mine were more Ride the 9. Hit it hard and wish it well. Those were the days.

Guys at the hall may be getting tired of hearing that. Blind squirrels and nuts, all of them. You need a full repertoire.
