Rip,

What's it made of? How does it attach? How much extension is available after it's attached? Would it fit in a cue case other than the BR-2? :)

Thanks.

Watch out for the finish of your cue

I have one of these. It is a farily smart design and useful for some shots, but I have found it's the hard plastic used for the inner "teeth" that grip the butt of the cue can mark the finish of the butt.

Cue extensions

I personally went a more expensive, but I felt, better route. I am currently having someone modify my playing cue with two twelve inch extensions that screw into the butt of my cue and into each other, adding 24 inches of reach. Will show it off as well as the cuemakers excellent skills once the product is done. It was indeed much more expensive, but in my mind, well worth it. I am still interested in seeing and testing other designs and devices for people to see if they will work for this handicapped player.

Yes, I feel if you want an good extension there are 2 better options than anything the has to be force-fitted over the end of the cue - One is the type that screws into the butt (Mezz make these for their cues) and the second is a system I have only rarely seen which is where the entire end of the butt past the wrap extends backwards on in internal rail. This is my favorite option, but some custom cue makers I have spoken to about it say it causes structural problems and will adversly affect the feel and balance of the cue.

Does anyone have a DeRoo cue (Or other cue with a similar built-in extension) who can comment on this?

There is also this gizmo that takes the opposite approach by slipping over the tip to add length to the shaft instead of the butt, but I have never tried one of these.

I have an X-tend-a-q thingie...not for me. Sorry, but I am not scratching up my ferrule or end of my shaft, nor is it easy to get it square on your tip. Just does not work with my bridge system very well either. JMO

I talked with Mr. DaRoo and he wanted almost as much money as the way I went, so I feel better to have custom extensions done by a local cuemaker that I know will be long enough as well as secure and flush with my cue. It works the same as the Mezz system, just longer.

Intersting, was this for a whole cue or just adding the extension to an existing cue? And did you check if he was quoting in US or Canadian dollars?

I believe he quoted me prices in US dollars, and I had extensions made for an existing cue, my Schon specifically. I will be posting more about this once the cuemaker and I decide when/how to publish it. He has done a great job on it so far, but not quite finished yet. I have just been seeing pictures of progress so far. I really like my Schon and I was not comfortable finding another cue and starting all over from scratch. I may buy and sell cues on occasion, but I take my playing cue rather seriously.

I have the Tony Ryan cue extender and really like it. The only problem is that I have no room for it in my case so I rarely remember to take it with me when I go out to play. Works great at home though!

Just go buy a custom Whitten with a special pouch like I did for $550...grin.
