Longoni - Shaft choice and length - Three cushion

Hi three cushion lovers! :wave2:

For those of you playing a Longoni cue - what kind of shaft do you play? What is your favorite length when it comes to three cushion billiards and why? Do you prefer 69cm or 71cm? Do you think 2cm have a noticeable impact regarding the playability (amount of english, deflection etc.) or does it only have an affect on the cue balance? Most of the top players choose 69cm, Eiffel profile (source: Longoni webpage), only Caudron seems to like 71cm with the Conic profile. First I thought the 71cm version is favored by rather tall players but now I'm not that sure anymore .

The reason why I'm asking is...I really can't decide between 69cm or 71cm. Also the variety of shaft types are confusing me. Unfortunately I don't have the possibility to test all the different shafts.Well, at least I'm pretty sure that the Eiffel profile is perfect for my small hands :D...so Conic is out of the running.
What are the main differences between S2, S3 and S20 (besides the woodtype and number of sections)?

Thanks!

-IIRC, Caudron likes a lot of weight in his shafts... Some find this better for 3 cushion, but it works the other way for 1 cushion, and free games.

-Aside from the fact that the balance and pivot point will be slightly different for the 2 length shafts, I don't think you will notice much of a difference in play(maybe a longer follow through depending on your stance and bridge position?). It's more about how tall you are, and which length feels more comfortable.

-For the different shafts, I can't tell you much more than what the longoni website can. Though the wood type is what makes the shafts play/feel different, and the more sections, the more uniform, and consistant the shaft is meant to play.

I wanted to get a layani cue because they are have the technology and look cool, then I tried a friends p3 predator, and fell in love. Bought it off him straight away. Before that, I would have never even thought about buying a pool cue rather than a cue from reputable carom brand.

TL : DR, Forget about what you think you want, and goto a dealer and play with 500 cues until you find one that feels awesome.

I play with a Dick Jasper signature series cue. I found it a bit short for me. I had a 4" extension built for me and bought the 6" extension from longoni. It doesn't play much different with it on all the time, but you will notice something. If your stroke is true, it wont be noticeable. However, if you have flaw in your stroke, expect it to show up more intensely. I was thinking of having someone build a longer shaft for me, but then decide to wait until I could afford making a custom. Oh, the extensions were connected between the butt and the shaft...before it became a popular addition. Most extensions (if not all) at the time were only connected to the butt.

A few year back I have some statistics showing many Longoni Pro's play with S2 and Pro2+, both are 70.5 cm. Currently, Longoni's website shows most of them play with 69 cm.

I play a few different longoni shafts and the S2 shafts are the best in my opinion. I've not play with the S20 but I'm pretty sure it's very similar to the S2, 10 slices for the S2 and 20 slices for the S20. Laminated shafts has more radial consistency and feel different from the standards maple shafts.

I think the Eiffel profile is a little too thin and the Conic taper on the other hand is way too thick. I had my mechanic guy to sand down the shaft to the desired taper. If I had to choose btw the two, I would go with Eiffel profile.

I feel a big different btw the 69 and 71 shaft; The 71 shaft has more power and it vibrates more when shooting. I also feel the weight and balance as well. It depends on the individual and I'm very sensitive to cues and shafts. Mine is a custom made one. You need to decide weather you want the 11.8 or 12 cm tip.
