Look Where Grady's Going - Will John Schmidt Follow?

How does one get into this tournament? I am totally ignorant of how snooker tournaments are run, but I wonder why Grady wouldn't have to qualify if other players do. Has he won snooker events, or do accomplishments in other games count in their system?

No offense meant to anyone, I'm just curious.
