Looking for a 5/16 X 18 butt

Am interested in a very nice new or used sneaky pete or simple custom cue made with cocobolo, ebony, or rosewood. Needs to have the 5/16 X 18 flatfaced joint.

Thanks,

Flex

Looks nice, but what about the cracks that are mentioned in that other thread? Are they cracks in the finish or in the wood? Any idea how the cracks got there?

Don't Bang Your Cue on the Floor!

They are cracks in the wood which have been reglued. My guess is that it was from the stick being bounced on the floor over time not a good idea:( This cue has the butt drilled out for a weight bolt which also probably lent to the situation too! For the price it may be worth your consideration???

Actually, I have a sneaky pete butt with a stack leather wrap that hits great (has a Predator 314 on it) although it's a cheapy, and I wanted to upgrade it to one with really nice wood and no blemishes. Glued cracks and so on won't work. Thanks anyway.

Custom SP's

I can appreciate that Flex,

My recommendation is to just buy a new Custom Sneaky Pete. There is a thread on AZ recently which talks about options for SP cues. You can sell the cue you have and order exactly the wood you would like to have for your new cue. Personally, I feel the 5/16-18 pin flat faced joint is not as good of a playing joint as compared to a piloted 5/16-14, radial, 3/8-10 or 11 wood to wood -- just my 2 cents....Happy Shopping ;)

I've had many cues, some of them with the joints you mention, and have found that the 5/16 X 18 works out just fine. It so happens that I have several excellent shafts already in this joint, and don't wish to change. By excellent I mean a Predator 314, an Ed Young custom, two modified Meucci black-dots (these two shafts are great, inspite of what may have happened to a good number of these shafts recently) and two others. No need to go looking for a new shaft, as I'm happy with those I already have.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Rather than have a custom made up, which I could easily do, I'm sure someone out there has what I'm looking for, ready to go. Not in any hurry...

Best,

Flex

Just a side question here. How would it work to put a flat faced 314 shaft on a butt that has a stainlesss steel piloted 5/16 by 18 joint. Would it not hit right minus the pilot. Or would it really matter as long as it cinches up nice and rolls straight.

His 314 doesn't have the piloted joint...

Just asking

Yes I know that. What I was asking is how would it work. Hope I don't have to go over to cuemakers to ask:D :D :D

I have three different butts with the 5/16 X 18 joint, one's a sneaky pete that works just fine, I like the hit and so on, the second one's a Meucci, don't like the hit, the third's a stainless steel piloted joint butt, the hit with the Predator 314 doesn't feel good to me. It shoots alright, but feels funny. The best hit of the three with the 314 is with the cheapie sneakie. Kind of looking for an upgraded butt to stick the 314 on. :D

The brass jointed Viking looks fine but just isn't what I'm looking for. Thanks for the pics!
