I have been reading on these boards for years and love the insight that the members give. Hopefully I will be able to give someone some help somewhere down the line now that I am a member. A little about me and my situation. I played off and on growing up but started playing alot about 6 months ago now at 26 y/o with one of my dads best friends. He has been playing for like 50 years or so. Well in those 6 months I can play with any of the guys in the place we play and win some and I got to use his older Meucci Sneaky Pete today and really liked it. I am using a McDermott M61G. I was wondering what everyones opinion is on what I should get to improve my game. I can either get a Meucci Sneaky Pete, McDermott Sneaky Pete, or a Shaft for my cue, or any other suggestions?

Can anyone give me some suggestions on what they think I should look into getting. Like which sneaky pete is better between the 2? And would that be the best bet, or should I go with getting a LD shaft for my McDermott Veolicty Cue

I would say stick with the McDermott and if anything maybe try a layered tip (kamui Mediums are nice)

Being in the same boat, I didn't start pool seriously until I was about 27. At the time I was in a better financial place at the time and a serious impulse buyer (Thank you economy for changing that  ). You can see my signature of "fallen cues." It has given me a feel of how different cues play, but ultimately realizing that I should've probably stuck with one.

To at least answer you question about the Meucci Sneakies, your dad's friend probably has a really old one from the 80's or early 90's? My friend has one and it has a very nice hit to it. The newer ones don't compare. The Meucci SP I had was bought in 2000 and it still felt completely different. It was okay, but not nealy like the old one.

The old meucci felt real solid, had good feedback to the hand, and had a good tune and sound to the hit. The newer ones felt hollow, was dead to the hand, and had this annoying buzz to it.

My Cognoscenti was probably my best paying (and most expensive) cue, until I fixed an old dufferin (that's probably worth about $50), and had it tuned. Then I realized what I thought was equipment was really just a couple years of solid table time (20+ hours every week).

And there's this guy at the pool hall that beats the pants off people with a player's cue.....with eletric tape wrap.

Anyway, feel free to PM me anytime. I'm by no means an expert at all, but I always like to communicate with pool peers.
