is the price too high for an intermediate player level cue? I didn't have the chance to try a lot of cues and I want to change that cuetec of mine.

If you know brands that have lower prices or higher (I won't exceed 600$CAN but the value has to be good) and that they hit great let me know.

I'm not buying this week or this month but I want to know how much I have to save for an intermediate cue.
 
$500 CAD is roughly $450 USD right now. You can buy a lot of cue for that on eBay. I suggest you try eBay Canada first to see if you can get what you want without paying customs duty. The "other cues" category will contain some good deals on hand-crafted cues. Just enter your price range in the search criteria box on the left, select "Canada Only" in the location box, and enter "cue" in the keyword search box. Then you see "Add to Favorite Searches" over on the right side of the top of the page. Click that and choose how often you want emails about new cue listings.

I recently "rescued" a distressed beauty for just $285 delivered. Cored snakewood forearm and butt sleeve; loads of ivory; Predator 314 shaft. The unusual 1/2"-8 wooden joint pin provides a truly sweet hit!

But it came out flawed: see the sugar-stained curly maple handle in the last photo below. (Click on thumbnails for larger views.)

So I had it shipped to Sheldon Lebow, who replaced the handle for $150. Total cost: $435. The shaft and raw materials cost the maker around $500, he told me.

 
i have a 2006 ebony russ espiritu that you may be interested in..

Buy a Joss for $350 and pocket the rest.
 
there are so many brands out there! I'm always reading for your advices which I thank you. I'm at this point where I'm just sick of my cue but don't have the money right now to buy a new one so I'm looking for options.

This is only my opinion but, based on your budget, I wouldn't spend the $450 - $500. On a production cue in that price range, all your paying for is the looks when you go over a certain threshold.
Here is an example of what you can buy and the different looks. These are Joss but other great choices are Schon and Helmstetter. I've owned all that I have mentioned and they are all quality cues.

Consider Dale Perry

If you're looking on eBay, you may wish to consider doing a search for Dale Perry Cues. He has devalued his own cues buy selling them on eBay, but I think he prefers the steady income to an occasional high dollar sale.
He makes very nice playing cues and his finish is excellent. I've bought some when they sold for $1500 and some for $350 and both hit well and are nicely made. He will adjust weights and shafts. Just a thought.

You have plenty of options for Custom Sneaky Petes or plain custom cues. I recommend a Frey Sneaky Pete. Check out www.cuesnthings.com for a decent selection of them.

Any cue made by a good known cue company will fill your needs. McDermott, Schon, Joss, Pechauer and Huebler are well built cues. I would stay away from import and Meucci cues myself. Meuccie's quality is sub-par and the imports, although many are better than the past, still are not on par with good American cues.

You should try as many of your friends cues as possible being that the above named cues are built well but they still have their own playing charecteristics, meaning a Joss plays like a Joss and a Schon generally plays like a Schon. Although you will aclimatize to almost any cue after using it awhile it is best to get one that feels good right off the bat.

Some one mentioned Dale Perry cues. In my opinion, these are some of the best buys in the cue market today. They are built good, look good, have a fine finish and at the price they are selling for on e-bay they are a steal. I'm just glad I wasn't one of his dealers when he decided to start marketing them on e-bay as they were stuck with a bunch of cues that they had bought wholesale and are now being sold for half that price on e-bay by Dale.

I know you have a cue now but if you decide to upgrade you should have a look at Layani Cues. They are in your neck of the woods and Thierry makes a very nice cue. http://www.layanicues.com/

a cue made by falcon but without the name Falcon on it. It has the name 'Connoisseur' that is a line made for a store in montreal. I like it a lot, it plays great. The butt is magic. A friend of mine (getting to AA level) soon wanted it and a semi-pro also.
