Looking for a quality mechanic to replace my simonis & shim pockets in 9' Brunswick Gibson table.

I already bought the cloth based on a conversation with a guy I know from south FL but the guy isn't responding anymore so I take it he is not interested in driving up to Orlando.

Any recommendations?

I just spent a couple of days at the Diamond factory with Wes from Tampa. He was getting a couple of tables for delivery in your area maybe?

Hi Joel,
I hope I can be of help here. Being that you are looking for a quality Simonis recover and quality shim work I would watch out for the "I'll be around guys". There are plenty of pool table mechanics in your area that you can meet to feel out there knowledge before commiting. Ask to see recent work, as even good mechanics are constantly looking for new and better ways to do the work. The key here is the shim work, so my suggestion is to determine what exactly you want in a final pocket dimension before finding someone to do it. I would say its a pretty universal that you should steer clear of using facings over 1/4", and definately avoid having someone just slap on an extra facing with spray glue. There are many ways to do the facings correct, as many of us have our own specialized tooling to ensure accuracy. What you should watch out for are guys using a hand held sander to adjust the pocket angles. You need some sort of mechanical stop so you get the same angles left and right hand. There is a lot of information on this site so you can learn enough to weed out the wanna-be's. I made a quick list of companies in your area, if you want to weed them out be precise with your questions. Just ask if you have any other questions. Good luck to you.
