right now, i own a Viper pro series that i got as a promo from marlboro cigarettes a couple years ago. i replaced the shaft this year, but for some reason i dont like the players shaft i bought for it. the joint is a 5/16 x 18 13mm flat face. i was wondering if its worth buying a good shaft to use with the butt section. i also own a cuetec jump/break 3 section cue stick that is all graphite that i use primarly as a shorty sometimes and break cue other time. does it make sense to buy a different shaft to use with this rather than the graphite sst that it came with if i also wanted to use it as a shooting stick? im trying to find something i like that will compliment my game without throwing away money. i'm a APA 8ball player that plays for the most part on 7 x 3.5 bar tables. i know its not the stick that wins the game, its the player that wins it.

Ok, i understand that even a great cue isnt going to make my game great. Ive been looking at new shafts, mainly predator 314 2nd gen and mcdermott shafts. The butt of the cue stick is fine, im thinking a good shaft would help some with my ball control. Better equipment has better tips, better ferrules, better materials. Problem is finding feedback but then everyone shoots different. i did read that the predator z shaft isnt for everyone, and that ppl playing with the 314-2 didnt seem to have anything bad to say about it. also was looking at ob-1 shafts. i sorta just want to buy a shaft because i like the butt section of my cue stick, the wrap is nice, when complete its balanced pretty well and the design is nice. the 5/16 x 18 joint leaves something to be desired tho....

Seriously...I agree with Ratcues that it might be time to move to better equipment...tho I carry a Viper cue as a "trunk cue" or as the cue to take when I'm uncomfortable with the situation. A cue that I won't cry over if it's stolen, in other words.

But you might even want to consider a Rat cue for an upgrade...I've read good reviews on them.

Second on the Rat cue. Ryan makes a hell of a good cue for the money. Customer service is phenominal. there is nothing to dislike. Look at Meuller's site. Or contact him. I saw a seriously sick ebony cue he had at the SBE that was a little over 400$. But it was gorgious. Hell Ryan can make a shaft for the old junker too. Ryan is top knotch.

Otherwise look at McDermott, Dominiak, Jacoby,Rat or a Joss. Can't go wrong with any of them.
