Looking for a tip that does it all: Jump/Break/Play...

Churchill's quote applies to pool, as well. To continue the analogy, now you want one club for driving, chipping and putting?? Hmmmmm

I think Von and Varney have it right. IMO I'd rather not sacrifice my favorite playing tip for one that would also jump and break well. I kind of like specialized tools myself even tho I've used a larger wrench as a hammer a few times.:p

That said, I'll vote for a morri quick as maybe the best tip candidate. How hard of a playing tip do you prefer now jdel?

I thought the Tiger jump break tip played pretty well, if one doesn't mind a hard tip. I didn't get a chance to break or jump with it, however.

Good Rolls,

I've got one on my break cue and the break very well.

J, it's true.....there's always give or take with tips and no one can do everything the best. Based on your request, IMO the best all-around tip would be a hard water buffalo WB. This is the tip Gilbert uses on his jump-breaks and lots of players do everything well with those cues. IMO, they are the best when you trim the tip down to where you've got about 1/4 of its height left. That's where you'll get your best jumping with it....and it'll still play great. The sumo brand are really good tips but as Ross has mentioned, there is a tendency for some of them to be "brittle"....we've had some shear off chunks, usually on miscues or jump shots where you're trying something extreme.

Where can you purchase some of these tips?

Go with a Water buffalo............................................... I've been using them forever.

is what I suggested in a PM
Talisman WB Medium, perfect Break/Play tip
They are premium WB.

I'd vote for a Sumo WB.....or if you wanna try a SuperPro let me know and I'll send you one --- but, for playability I think the Sumo WB would be my choice but, what JW or Varney or somebody else pointed out before....you should really have a Playing cue and a Jump/Break cue

S__t you can buy a J/B on here for less than $75....I've got a Pete Omen Jump Break cue that is AWESOME but really my own coversion cue breaks and jumps balls better -- it just don't look as NICE  :D

It's usually a miscue that does it... I've had it happen to more than one, which is why I won't use them anymore.

Somebody is going to have a bad experience with anything out there, regardless of what it is...

It does'nt happen but ocasionally, altough over the years I have seen WB's do the same thing, usually on the break with alot of outside english. Sometimes in a box a few of them may be harder and darker in color, some of those seem to be the ones more likely to have It happen. It's like they are so hard that they get brittle, and a chunk just busts right out of the side of them sometimes. I would almost say It's rare, but I have seen It more then a few times. Ofcoarse that's over the 10-15 odd years or so that I have installed them, so the odds are still really low of It happening. I don't have alot of interest from customers here on the Sumos for some reason, therefore don't install many of those, so can't comment on them, but I have seen exactly what Your talking about with the tips I mentioned. Not too much You can do, but retip the cue, the chunks are usually that bad when It happens, that there is no recrowning to save the tip or anything that's gonna be of any help. Now days when I get a request for one, I just make sure I don't install one of the tips out of the box that looks like a prime candidate for this to happen with, and have not had It take place since.
