Hello all,

I am an APA 6 in both 8 and 9 ball and in TAP I am a 5 in both. I entered my first real tournament this past weekend and came in as a C player, but could probably be a C+ also. My biggest strength is my pocketing ability and I would like to know if anyone knows who I can talk to or work with in this area to help me improve my positional play and other aspects of my game so I can get to at the very least the B/B+ level.

For those of you who know the area I am from Clifton and can play at Breakers, Clifton Billiards, Shooters, Castle, Crown, Rockaway, etc. Feel free to send me a PM if you know of anyone or respond to the thread directly, thanks for your help in advance.

Steve Lipsky is a great player from your area and he is now giving classes.

Northern NJ Instructors

A few people come to mind if you don't want to go into NYC.
Pat Fleming runs his Accu-Stats game show out of Breakers & I understand he'll give lessons there.
Bill Haley used to give lessons at Comet, when it was still open. You can track him down to see if he would meet you somewhere in the area for lessons.
Todd Fleitman is in Woodbridge & teaches in his home.

Harry

If you go to Sandcastle you could always ask any of the regulars or ask Phil or Ed for Al Lapena's contact info. I know he gives lessons and he has a lot to share, for a price :)

I think Pat is only helping people with straight pool, not 9 ball. If you want Al Lapena's number pm me. Al gives lessons at the Sandcastle in Edison on Route 1 or at Prime Time in Sayerville on Route 9. You can ask him if he is willing to travel to you.
Danny Basavitch also gives lessons. He works out of a private club in Edison near the Sandcastle. I can give you his number also if you want.

Tony

For my money I would contact Tony Robles. I believe he only teaches out of NYC. It'll be worth the commute from Jersey. Here's a link to his site which has information about his pool school. I'm pretty sure Tony still gives private lessons.
