Looking for an under 150$ cue - have several models in mind

Hello all,

I have been playing pool for 8 years now, and more and more often (+- once a week) in the last few years. I've reached a pretty good level, clearing an 8 ball table in the first visit every now and then, with a good familiarity with all of the basics and allot of the advanced techniqs (cueing, FT, tangent line, top\back spin, english, and so on... ), and i'm looking for a first cue that will improve and make my game more consistent.

my budget is up to 150$ for the cue only. I contacted an online store (no good pool cues around where i live) and they offerd the Players HXT40 Pool Cue at 120$, the guy there said it is the best under 150$ bcz of the anti-deflection tech stuff and the kaumi tip.

I also saw the
Players E5100 Exotic Pool Cue in 72$, which i liked for the look and price, and the lucasi L-2000SP at 135$, but when i asked the sales man what is the difference between them, he ignored the question...

So, do you think there is a difference (In playability and wood only! i dont care for look at all) between the 3 cues? and at the budget of 150$ for a pool cue, what would you recommend to my needs? buing a simple one (as it is my first cue) , or go for best value at the budget?

Hope i made myself clear.. :)
Thx!

I think the Lucasi is the way to go for a first cue..... Where are you from? i Have a lucasi i will let go for 150$

Not many pool cues have any significant advantage over another, it is how they feel to the player that matters. I have had my a@# handed to me by house cues just as often as by the expensive inlaid pool cues. I have recently started playing again and I bought a used cue. It doesn't feel right to me, but I have won using it. Lots of people recognize the brand and assure me it is a great cue. Pick one that feels right to you. Plain jane, sneaky pete, save up for a carmeli. It is your game, your cue, shoot with the cue that feels best to you. Good luck, John

PS After I get my next cue I will have a 2007 J Pechauer Jo5 cue for sale, 175.00.

Thank you for the first honest answer :)
Unfortunatly, I can't feel those cues, since I leave in Israel and pool is not that developed here. I just have to make a decision based on tech and money considerations.

I narrowed it down to the players HXT (in which I find the anti-deflection technology and the kaumi black medium tip adventurous) to the plyers sneaky pete E5100 cue (which is 50$ less expensive, and I can choose a tip of my choice by adding 16$, and I also find it more visually attractive and the price is very reasonable for a first cue)

Can't make up my mind, yet.. any tips?

I'd add Sterling/Fury to your list. Actually, I would buy a Sterling/Fury over the others because I recently played with one and was very impressed with the hit/playability. Plus, the fit and finish was flawless.
