I was playing in the weekly local 8 ball tourney just a few minutes ago. I missed 3 opportunities to get out by not taking my time and sticking with my pre-shot routine.

I mean, real real easy outs. 2 of them I ended up getting on the 50 yard line and one of them resulted in a scratch on the 8 ball putting my opponent on the hill

I need to work on sticking with the damn routine no matter what don't I?

I'd be more pissed if I hadn't made some clutch breakout shots including a 3 rail bankshot that busted a cluster up which in turn setup one of the easy outs...

blah w/e, I got 2 games off 2 of the big dogs in the room even with that sh*t performace.. maybe i'll get 3 next time.

The simple answer is to develop and consistently use a solid shooting process.

If can identify why you didn't follow your routine, you can make changes to keep it from happening again. It can be difficult to correctly identify the reason(s), and the obvious assumption isn't always it. Peel back the onion until you get to the root of the problem. Be honest with yourself.

well the simple fact of the matter is I saw an easy out and against the top players in the room and I just didn't take my time...

nothing much else to say

Sounds like you know what you need to work on. Don't worry so much about the results. focus on the process and practice your routine until it becomes so natural that you don't have to think about it.

Your first problem is you don't have enought pre-shot routines. We need three pre-shot routines to play at a high skill level.

This is the obvious assumption, but not the root problem. Taking more time doesn't mean you wouldn't have missed. What's going on during that time is what's important.

Be that annoying six year old, and keep asking why until you get to the answer.

On this shot of all the shots in this game, why didn't you take your time?

It looked easy? I can't miss? The take away might be to develop the habit of thinking that every shot, not matter how easy, requires the same high level of attention.
