Understand that a touch of wax can loosen up a very tight joint when screwing together, but looking for a possible a solution for the opposite situation...a very loose screwing joint until the final turn. Cue hits great and hoping to avoid major re-installation of joint components.

Any simple solutions without damaging threading appreciated.

if it is

a3/8th 10 pin or radial pin into wood threads you could squeeze in a little thin ca (super glue) and then sling the excess glue out very quickly by whipping the butt end of the shaft above the ground very hard and fast. Then let the glue dry several minutes and see how it fits and repeat as needed, but don't screw the wet glued shaft on the butt or it will be a one piece cue. And you might not get it screwed on all the way . if you get it real tight you will need a cue repairman to simply run the right tap through the threads, this really works but you don't want gel super glue, some cue builders coat new wood threads this way when G 10 pins are used since they are abrasive.--Leonard

If it is a wood joint, fill it with water, or liquid wax and let it set for a while, repeat the process until you get it the way you want it. I've fixed many this way. (if that doesn't work deadbeat had the answer)

Rubbing alcohol would be a good start also. Fill it, let it sit for 15 seconds, then shake it out. Screw it on after a minute and check for fit. Repeat. Go to water only if necessary. A change of just .002 where thread tolerance is considered can make a difference.
