Looking for info on the Ultraskin tips

I will be placing an order in a few days and would like a little info from someone familiar with all 3 types.
I tend to use a lot of english and am wondering how the three different tips compare to each other?
How well do they hold up without mushrooming? (especially the soft and very soft)
What is your favorite tip?
I plan on ordering some soft and medium, as well as a couple hard ones for a break cue.
Any help greatly appreciated.

the guy that makes them in florida died. so make sure you know who and where you are ordering from/
 
His sister is running the business through his website. I contacted her through the email address and will be ordering directly from his website.

I was told by a very very reputable cue maker last week that his sister is in fact running the show and the tips are good as ever.

I spoke to Tom once years and years ago. Great guy, great tips. Very sad he passed.

Word is the tips are still the same quality. I personally haven’t seen the ones since he passed🙏🏼, the cue maker has seen them-all good.

For the most part I use the fire med and the black med. The fire med might mushroom somewhat at first. I use both of those on my wood shafts and have only had to clean up a fire med once, and it was slight. I did put a fire med on for a friend about a month or so ago and when talking to him yesterday he asked if I could clean up a slight mushrooming. I really wanted to put a black med on his shaft at the time as it was a 11.8 Jacoby Ultra, and he shoots really hard all the time and breaks with his shaft also, so I knew he probably would get a little mushrooming. My shafts are mostly 12,5mm and I am not seeing mushrooming.
I also have used some fire softs on our 3 Rhino 12.5mm carbon shafts with zero mushrooming. I also have used a couple of black HH as break tips

I see you are from Price county. You are close to me. If you are looking for something to do, take a ride and I can give you a couple to try or put one on for you if you want. I'm about 10 miles north and 10 miles west of Wausau.
Or just order some as they are inexpensive and fast shipping.
 
Some wignut said the guy that made them died. OK dufus,let's get real here. Tom Hay, the founder/owner/ never made tips. They are made overseas as are all layered tips. Yes, he did pass away but his sister has taken over the company so its business as usual. Great product, great service.

maybe i dont have it exactly right. but you as usual are the one that twists things to make you look smarter which you are not.

I have a medium on one of my cues and have been very happy with it . The tip requires very little attention ,I use a tip pic on it once in awhile and that is it . mushrooms have never been as issue . These tips are a bargain...they remind me of the original Mooris .

The black are probably the best. I tried a red one and it got hard real fast.
Tom didn't make them, I'd bet dollars to donuts they are Chinese tips.
Great value for the $

The reds do harden up after a bit of playing, but for me still not quite as hard as the blacks. I do when installing mine, cut a layer or two off right away and they seem to be a little more consistant/faster at breaking in. Given their cost, and I have a cue lathe, I don’t care that I may have to put one on every season.
While I am using a fire med this year, I used a black med last year and by the end of season I only had about a 1/16" left on the outer edge at the ferrule. Hit was very sharp and crisp. Really got to like it, not sure why I changed to the fire med this year, but like it also now that it has got about 3 months use on it.
When putting a tip on for someone else, I don't trim them shorter unless they ask.
I feel they are great tips.

If you check his website you will find that Tom imported the finest leather from Japan, then made the tips himself.
Sooo - they are not made in China as some have claimed, and he didn't have someone else making them for him.
Top quality USA made tips at the best price anywhere!!! ;)

Ok, a little research....
Tom had a chemist background and spent many years making pool cues before he started making his own layered tips.
Lots of interesting info if you study his website.

I had a similar experience. I tried the Fire (M's) and really didn't care for them. The SIB Cool Blue seem better to me.

don't know where you get this shit. go read his site again, there's nothing stating Tom actually made these. these tips have always been made overseas. only been here a week or so newb so stop doggin' it.

ALL are chinese/taiwan made. Tom never made these himself. i don't have solid proof of this but i'm pretty sure Kamikazi(and others) are made by same shop. Too many likenesses. AFAIK there are no layered tips made in the US.
