Let me start by saying that I think we as pool players have been spoiled w/ low entry fee tournaments. The big entries are $500.00 w/ many well below that. Reno $125.00, Derby City $125.00, Turning Stone Classic $150.00, Joss NE Tour stops $100.00, etc.
As players I feel the answer is not to depend on any one to give us any thing. Added money is very hard to come by for many promoters. My opinion is that if we want to play for more money... the answer seems simple... put up more money. I have sat and watched ALOT of players put up $1,000.00 - $2,000.00 just to try and get into a tournament.
So here is the set up:
10 Ball
Races to 9
128 player field
Double Elimination
4 day event (5 nights hotel max)
50% of field paid
Top 32 = minimum of entry fee back
13/16 = to about 4th @ US Open
1st place = $25,000.00
$196,000.00 prize fund (Yes I know short $60,000.00. #1 It cost $ to put on events... too many expences to list. #2 This would be a business so profit is not a dirty word. #3 If you want someone to do it for free check the mirror and if your not willing to do it don't expect anyone else to.
6 - 12 events per year (Scheduled around established tournaments w/ the option of joining the tour)
Points accumulated for place of finish toward year end bonus money.
A plan that is actually good for a room owner instead of wanting them to put up money and try to break even.
Now the questions:
How many would put up a $2,000.00 entry fee to try and take down the $25,000.00?
How many 128 player fields could be filled in a season (1 year)?
How many would object to playing in pool rooms as opposed to casinos / convention centers?
Do we really want all the lights and extras or are you looking for the cash?
Any replies would be greatly appreciated especially from the pros / full time players who earn their livings playing tournaments. It's not the big time but it's $250,000.00 (Based on ten events) more than is out there now.
Just a little some thing thats been banging around the office since before the IPT and had been put on hold. The way things have gone I feel pretty good doing some research. Thank you all for your time and help. Feel free to ask any questions. All replies good or bad are needed. So please have at me. There may be things I haven't thought of or am thinking all wrong about.
A tour funded by the players for the players so they're dependant on no one but themselves.
