Looking for old school joint rings

Hi Snowmon,
If you can't find rings in the thickness that you're looking for, you can stack rings to get to the thickness that you want. In the cutting process, the separation line btwn. the stacked rings will disappear giving the illusion of one solid ring.

Make em out of stainless and thread em on. Stainless will polish up and have a similar weight to Nickel silver

Thickness?

Are old rings 1/16" or the thickness of a nickel?
I think I read they used real nickels for the rings. You do mean the "Buska"old days, right?
I don't know who started the Nickel/Silver trend.
Got 1/16" Nickel/Silver at Atlas and Prather's. Regular stocking items.

Anything over 1/16", I kind'a call it a collar....

Im pretty sure that you can use a pre-1964 silver quarter to get the ring you desire. I was told buy a guy that knew Gus Szamboti personally that this is what he used and that they wouldnt "shrink" like a nickel silver ring. I have no idea if this is true or not but it just might be worth a shot. Naturally if you do decide to do it this way you would have to sand both sides of it flat to remove the face and eagle off of the quarter. Then bore a hole for the tennon at the joint and for the shaft.

I thought about using a nickel, but they are a little undersized in circumference...the rings don't have to be nickel silver....I just thought that would be the most common metal material used for rings...

Dale <----Isn't a cue builder, but could use more suggestions

I checked atlas, and prather online....the thickest rings at atlas were .030, and prather had rings at .050 which is about the thickness of a dime....I was hoping for some rings in the .080 range similar to a nickel .....I'm not a cue builder, and if my comparisons are incorrect please correct me so I can get on the right path...

Thanks

Dale

Nickels

Yes, the Atlas rings list at .050" ,but, when I turn them, they come out thicker, fat.
The nickels are undersize, but, those days the cues were shorter and joint diameter were smaller. About .830"?
