Hi i am going on a biz trip leaving tomorrow and I decided to drive from Indy, I have to install a system in Hartwell GA. Along the way I will stay one night in Knoxville TN get up and drive to Hartwell through the country hitting the tail of the dragon which should be a fun drive. When done in Hartwell I will return through Greenville SC hitting Babys pro shop (I have 2 of his cues) and a night or two in Raliegh Durahm NC area and then home to Indy. If there are any good rooms to hit in any of those towns please post a reply.

Also, I will have True Racks with me if any one is interested in a rack or trying the True Rack. Let me know I would be glad to meet up and let you try a rack.

I am looking for rooms with any of the following good equipment, AZ members who like 14.1, good music, Gold Crowns or Diamonds. I am not out to make a score just looking to have a good time checking out the south. I might play some with anyone who likes 14.1 or jump in on some cheap bar table action or hit a local week night tourney. I could also be up for a pool lesson if the right person is available when I have time. My schedule has alot to do with how my project goes but I expect to be finished in Hartwell Tues night and be back in Indy by Sunday.

Hi Stick. I might try to get over there depending on how my project goes. I do not see any pool rooms showing up in Hartwell. What kind of tables are your small tables Valley, Diamond or some other. What do you guys use for a cue ball. Thanks for the offer.

Chattanooga?

If you will be going through or near Chattanooga, Diamond Billiard Club is full of Diamond tables including 2 9-footers. There will be a $5 9-ball tourney on Tuesday evening and a $10 8-ball tourney on Friday evening. Most of the time cheap action can be found. I haven't seen any straight pool action in a long while, but there is alot of 1-pocket played with the action ranging from $5/game on up. Would be glad to see a new face, even for just a funzy game of 14.1. I like it, I just haven't played enough to really get the strategy (I miss too much).
There is also Chattanooga Billiard Club with its 2 locations, but it has been my experience the crowd there is more in to drinking & socializing than playing pool. It's a very nice, nonetheless, with 18 Gold Crowns and 2 9-foot Diamonds. Four of the Gold Crowns are also 9-footers.
I prefer Diamond Billiard Club for its prices and environment.

In Raleigh you have Brass Taps and Babbineaus as high caliber 9'er choices. Probably more action at Brass Taps.

Hope you have a good trip!

I've been away for a few days and just saw your post, so apologies for being late.

Rainbow billiards, Easley SC: 9ft GC's with tight pockets, decent grill.

Rasin' Cains, Inman SC: 9ft Diamonds, simonis covered Dynamo tables.

The Palace, Greenville SC: 9ft GC's, cool old school vibe

Tommy T's, Greer SC: 7 and 9ft Diamonds.

Red's, Spartanburg SC: Straight up old pool hall, 25 cent valleys.

Suits Me, Dazzlers, Break Room, Anderson SC: all with in 1/2 mile of each other...I recomend Suits Me.

PM for directions or a shooting partner any time you are in the area.

If you are traveling from Greenville/S'burg area to Raleigh via I-85 you will be passing right by The Smokin Cue in Charlotte, NC. Great 'lil room with a very bountiful Weds night 9-ball tourney, plenty of good players.
Check out their facebook page for results form the tourney and the loaded break-n-run drawings.

The Palace has crappy Gandys not GC

From what I understand, MG is still around.

Suits Me is the place I know of that is more pool oriented in Anderson, you can usually get action there or Dazzlers. Don't bother with Breaktime...the tables are horrible. There is a good chance you will run into Larry Nevel in Suits Me or at Rainbow....when you come through greenville, check out The Palace...it looks like the set from Pool Hall Junkies in there Haha.

Thank Ray, I would have loved to see you I have a lot to learn. I came to Largo once and took a lesson at your home 20+ years ago maybe 8hrs in 3 days. I think I could use some of your time as I am now a straight pool player and want to to raise my average and high run. I will contact you maybe we can make something happen.

I left GA on Thursday night with my project complete. I went over to Greenville and visited Mike Gulassy's shop. He had some great looking cues and he showed me how he builds cues and we talked about that for a while. Mike takes his cues and his methods very seriously. He had quite a bit of wood and cues in progress. His shop equipment was quality machines requiring a master to operate he is definitely not push a button and the cue pop outs kind of builder. He has a new style of design coming out soon and I thought that was interesting will probably be very well received. I also thought his shafts with his unique coating had a great feel. This was a good visit.

Then I drove toward Raleigh as I was to visit my cousin and her kids on Fri. I stopped north of Charlotte and played at the Smoking Cue. I played some 14.1 on a Gold Crown. All the tables were 9 footers nice room and nice people there. Complicated pricing taking into account day of week and time of day. I find pool time in general is higher in the south than it is in Indy.

Fri I visited my cousin and her kids always good to see family and I try to make that heppen when possible and I am working far from home. I had not seen her for ~3 years so the drive over was well worth the time.

When I left her house I was considering a drive straight back to Indy it was after 4pm and I was in Carey NC. home by 1:30 AM, I hit traffic and then it came a pretty good rain and between that traffic and the rain thing it just killed my mojo. I got tired pretty quick and though about hitting a pool room in Hickory but I wound up driving through to Knoxeville just got a room and went to sleep.

Sat I got up to drive home and wanted to play some lunch time pool. I drove all over Lexington and could not find a pool room. My GPS took me to a location and it might have been a pool room once but it wasnt anymore then I went to a place called Diamonds or something it still had signs for a room but the place was up for rent. I wound up driving to Louisville, eating at Jimmy Johns and hit the Diamonds on the east side. It was pretty good equipment but it was dirty. The Diamond 9' table had pretty decent shape green cloth pockets were pro cut would not take 2 balls. The Aramith pro balls were not clean but they had some shine. The price to play was ony $3/hr so that was great. Then afterwards I hit the Pie Kitchen and got some cupcakes to take home to the family. Good looking treats at the Pie Kitchen.

I was gone 9 days only played 3 times or so. I worked nearly 80 hrs on my install and drove 2300 miles including 300 miles of it being the trip to the Tail of the Dragon. If I have to go back I am going to fly to Atlanta and rent a car so I can sleep while I travel. I work to much and do not play enough pool I need to get some balance in my life.

sorry
