About a year ago I bought some fantastic sandpaper from an AZ'er it was cloth backed 3 by 6 inch pieces in 1800, 4000 and 8000 grit and I need much more. The envelope he mailed it in had a note inside but no AZ username and I can't remember it, however his name was Bill Jackson and he sent the envelope from somewhere near Pittsburg Pa.. Any help will be greatfully appreciated.--Leonard

Sounds like Micro-Mesh, I like it too, the 8000 and 12000 you could use on your shaft all day and not wear it down.

It dosen't look like Micro mesh as far as I can tell it is made by KD Products Inc. Iowa City, IA USA it is called Polysand and is described on the back as( cushioned abrasive ) this stuff is the bomb for smoothing and slicking a shaft. Anyone from Iowa got any ideas.--Leonard

Catscradle you hit the right spot now i just hope i can find the AZer that was selling sample packs a while back. The rolls start out at $199.61 each for each grit you need so this is corporate level not starting cuemaker level, not opposed to splitting a couple rolls maybe. Will the AZer please step forward with some sample packages.--Leonard

They sold individual sheets and kits as well.
 
Thanks to a long workday Thursday, I didn?t visit AZB since early AM Thurs. In scrolling thru the threads to catch up I found my name on page 4. I?m the infamous abrasive cloth vendor. Sadly I have no more available. I found 3 rolls at an aircraft surplus outlet, tried the stuff and loved it, and offered it up cheap on AZB to try and recover my investment. Demand was overwhelming. I guess I sold it too cheap! I shipped packs out as far as Hong Kong. All the repeat inquiries depleted my reserves low enough that I?ve been actively seeking more. If I do find some, you can be assured it will be posted here. In the meantime, for anybody looking for a small quantity, try an eBay search for ?Abralon? abrasive pads made by Mirka. Though I haven?t tried them, they appear to be another high-quality cushioned abrasive. There are a few people on eBay selling small assortments under $20.00. If anybody tries some, let us know what you think. In the meantime I?ll continue searching for another Polysand deal.

These sound a lot like the product Q Smooth Micro burnishing film. Of course they don't have the clothe back. They last for ever just wash them with a damp cloth and use over and over. Be careful tough if you choose to use these. They get warm when burnishing very fast and for a period of time. I have already developed a blister from this.

Thanks Billyjack now I remember your AZ name and the polysand is the shizzle, I don't know how any sanding stuff could be any better. I hope you can find some more and please pm me when you do, thanks again.--Leonard
 
Cushioned abrasives such as Micro-mesh or Polysand are definitely the nuts if you love a smooth finish. The way I understand it, conventional sandpaper is made by depositing the grit on a sheet of backing paper or cloth. Cushioned abrasive is made in an opposite manner. The grit is deposited on a flat surface, and latex is poured over the grit. The resulting sanding surface has its zillions of little grit stones at exactly the same height. The scratch pattern is consistent, since none of the little grit particles are standing taller than their neighbor. I'm finicky about the feel of my cue shafts, and prefer no additives or waxes. IMO nothing matches the consistent feel of a clean shaft polished with a good abrasive cloth. I cringe when I'm at the hall and see someone mutilating their cue with a green kitchen pad. What did your cue ever due to you to deserve that kind of abuse? I don't think I'll live long enough to reduce my shaft diameter noticeably with 4000 and 8000 grit cushioned abrasive, even if I used it every single day.
