All of these cues are great. Are the wrapless cues cheaper or more expensive to make? Let's use tiger or Birdseye maple as the example

Well,if the wrap area would be built in different wood than the entire cue and specially if the handle is segmented, then the answer is yes.
Hope this helps:wink::wink::wink:

With all do respect. I know there are many wonderful cuemakers out there using CNC for inlay work. Unfortunately I seem to be getting bored of all of the trinkets being thrown onto cues lately. Im a fan of machining. I feel It has improved the quality of cues and the pace at which they are made. I am however not as interested in the amount of gold inlays or special jewels someone puts on them. With that being said, I am a huge fan of Tonkins work, as well as many other cue builders and would love to have one of there cues proudly displayed in my home. In this particular case Im looking for a cue that has been built with the hit in mind. 20+ years ago I was a high school punk with a Schon in my case and not knowing better, all I wanted was more and more ivory. I hit a Southwest cue at a tournament and right then I figured out that the quality of a cue is equal to the the sum of its parts, not the amount of Ivory that has been thrown into it. I still have that Schon, but I have never forgot what that Southwest felt like. Now Im trying to find someone who can build me something that feels as good and Im proud to own. Sorry for the long winded explanation. G

Just trying to give you a little education on cue building... the use of CNC or non-CNC has little or no correlation to how a cue hits or feels. It is the overall construction methods and the sum of the parts that makes a cue play or feel the way it does.

Just because Southwest doesn't use CNC has no bearing on how their cues play or feel. I have played with a lot of Southwests, a few have been some of the best playing cues I have ever experienced, a few have been the exact opposite.

Southwest does not core their cues, so there is not going to be much consistency from how one of their cues play vs another. On the other hand, cuemakers that core their cues have more consistency in hit and feel from one cue to another IMO.

CNC does not = inlays only. It can be used for much more of the cue building process than just inlaying a cue.

Hope this helps.

Worminator, I understand what you are saying about CNC machining and without actual data, my opinion on the subject is just my dumb opinion. To me all of these bells and whistles added onto a cue would have to impart some form of added vibration(s). Whether they be audible or physically felt, it's my opinion that they would have to change the characteristics of the cue. In the end I want something that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. For me it's playing with a minimalistic stick.
Ivicafranic, Croatia isn't that big, how far are you from Dubrovnik?

what wormy is getting at
to educate you in the quickest easiest manner that you could understand

inlay and design is done on both manual and cnc machines

bells and whistles are applied or not by a persons hand
the same hand either pushs a button for the cnc to start or lifts a lever to kick on a manual lathe or turn a axial wheel on a manual mini mill

Hi
Nice hearing that you have heard about Dubrovnik or even have visited it.
Nice city and pleasure to visit it for sure.Regarding to your question, unfortunately too far.
I live in Zagreb and to travel to Dubrovnik by car it would take me the same amount of time to come in New York.Well, with plane it would take me an hour or hour and half.
Have you visited Croatia so far or have you just heard of Dubrovnik???:wink::wink:

Beneath_the_sur and worminator, After rereading, I think I found my screw up. My main point wasn't supposed to be how inlay work is done, rather why it's done and how it would benefit me in a cue that I would play with. I believe I may have stated cnc work is something I didn't want when I should have simply said inlays. I have cues with inlays and they're great cues. This time Im looking for a simplistic cue and I believe eliminating these add ons (bells and whistles) can only improve the quality of the hit. Again, it's my opinion, I have no data to prove it.
Ivicafranic, I have never been out of the U.S., but I have some friends that were born in Dubrovnik and I believe still own a home there as well. Seems like a great part of the world. Do you build cues?

Well, maybe in day you will visit us.If you like going seaside and eating good food, then it would be great journey for sure.Oursea is amazingly clean, bright and has no sharks:smile::smile::smile:
Dubrovnik is worldwide wellknown city and it's famour because of great and rich history. It is certainly one of MUST cities to see.
We..,I don't build cues, but am collecting them and play of course.Play for lots of years and even used to play in States much as well. However, these days it has become very difficult to get entrance visa for US for us-Croats so haven't been in States for awhile.Miss States a lot.Always had a great and pleasure time and playing there was more entertaining than here:smile::smile::smile:

Any more pics of wrapless cues? Im almost positive that I have seen a couple Southwest wrapless somewhere.
