Looking for the best all around 9ft table

If you haven't played on both then why are you commenting?
I have played on both. I’m
Just joking around. Honestly you know what to buy. I can understand asking about pocket size
and replies such as 4.25 can be undesirable. Good luck and enjoy whatever you end up with.

I think for a professional event it should be a race to 11 with winner breaks or best of 3 sets race to 5 winner breaks but switch break on set change obviously. No shoot out crap...just play the deciding set...lag or flip coin for break on deciding set.

Get a used GC 1 or 2 and have it reengineered. Those tables are beautiful and play well. They also have the test of time behind them..........Simply put THEY LAST.

By 're-engineered' do you mean just having a sub-rail modification done? That's about all that you need to do on one. If you just want to go with 4.5" corners then going with the thick facings from Classic Billiards is much cheaper and plays fine.

For straight pool..... a Gold Crown, with centennial balls on green simonis is aesthetically where it's at.

I had a Gold Crown, I'd get a Diamond. BTW, league cut is 4.75" pockets, the pro cut is 4.5".

Of the choices, practically speaking get whatever, a table is better than no table and all of the options given are pro level tournament tables.

Like someone said earlier in this thread, quality setup and mechanic will make a bigger difference than the tables here.

If you nitpick or have a choice...

The Diamond is far far less sensitive to setup issues than the Gold Crown. If you get a one piece slate that eliminates seam issues, and the table has the slate and leg levelers....you can correct issues on your own by buying or renting a machinists level. Reducing dependency on mechanics is a good thing, most of whom in the industry are awful. Also the rails are all one piece, so that eliminates all the issues with rail straigheness, setting it up "square" relative to the pocket shelf and all that. Plus, the Diamond frame is simply stronger more sturdy than a Gold Crown. The pockets are better design on the Diamond and the ball return on models with ball return are superior in every way. Dymondwood rails are practically indestructable and will look brand new for 20+ years even in a pool room with drunks slamming cues into them, at home will be multiple lifetimes.

Gold Crowns are prettier to me, but that's subjective. Also, Gold Crowns have a certain way the rails rebound, especially on 3 rail kicks. Although, I believe the "blue label" Diamonds corrected to match Gold Crown compared to the "red label" older Diamonds. The Diamonds have a rail surface where you can rest your cut on anywhere and you will never scuff, scratch your cue.

Stay on topic.

Get a GC IV 9’ with drop pockets.
