looking forward to retirement

Back in the 60's and 70's growing up in New Orleans I used to spend more time in pool halls than in school. Most of the time I'd be sweating the big games at the Sports Palace on Jefferson Highway.

As I got into the mid 70's I decided it was time to get serious and get a job. So for the past 30 years I've been working steady. Now that I'm getting close to retirement I am really looking forward to picking up the cue again.

What I have is a Doc Fry cue laying inside a Fellini case that has been in my closet for at least 30 years. All during that time I think I've only taken it out to look at it about 2 or 3 times.

I am not looking to sell either cue or case but I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what both might be worth and is it worth sending my cue to someone to get it refinshed or should I be looking for a new cue.

Thanks for any responses.

Enjoy your retirement. I too am jealous, since the only retirement I see in my future will be similar to Willie Lohman's, oy vey!

Maybe this will give you an idea Doc Frey Cue. I think it is ugly as hell, but it might give you some indication of price range.

Wow that cue is hideous looking. I guess you can't blame 'em, people loved those colors in that era.

Back in the 60s and 70s growing up in New Orleans I used to spend more time in poolhalls than in school. Most of the time, I'd be sweating the big games at the Chalk & Cue in Gretna (one block from Da Wabbit) and The Royal Cue in Gentilly.
As I got into the early 70s I decided that it was time to get serious and I left the poolhalls and spent ALL my time in bars that had pool tables. I've been drinking and playing pool for the past 30 years and now I'm back hanging in the poolhalls of Tampa and sweating all the big games. I've spent my entire life avoiding gainful employment and a legitimate job. In six years I'll be 65, does that mean that I can retire from being unemployed with no visible means of support ? (Btw, I did have a job.... ONCE--- though briefly).... Doug

Yeah, I remember The Royal Cue. Used to go in there to look for a game on occassion. As I remember, all they had were gold crowns with really worn felt.

Jungledude...

Don't know if we knew each other. Did you go into the Sports Palace a lot. Do you remember a guy with the initials FTB?
