Lots of APA Drama Lately

Anyone ever get kicked in the balls after winning a match? I guess it's the replacement for shaking hands, among the younger generation (I'm about 35 years older than the guy). I tried to shake hands with him after the match, and put my hand on his shoulder when he wouldn't turn around to acknowledge my presence, and...Wham! Well, I'm happy to say it wasn't a direct hit, but I was 'almost' too surprised to respond. He was a tiny guy and I'm not, so the response was mild but firm. I didn't see any point in mentioning the event to the league office, as he will now be eternally known in our league as "nut-kicker", which is probably punishment enough.

In any case, I look forward to my next TAP match. Vastly different experience.

He might have been wrapped up in his own thoughts about the match and you startled him. My buddy Skeeter cold cocked me one day when I seen him at the bar and tapped him on the shoulder unawares.

No, I tried to get his attention several times. Before he kicked me he said "Don't ever put your hands on me!", and I backed off a little. Then the strike came. I should have left him alone, but he had expressed a lot of anger throughout the match and I thought I could smooth things over and he would end the night in a better mood.

That wasn't in the original post, if the dude was already angry and even tried to ignore you more than once why did you put hands on him. Not saying he should have kicked you in the nugs but, you were picking a fight with him.

For some reason I'm having a difficult time quoting, but this is in response to @SJpilot

No, I wasn't picking a fight with him at all - quite the opposite. I knew he was angry, but I thought he was just mad at himself for playing so poorly.
I've walked away from a table a little upset before, and the other player came over and smoothed things over - it's common, and I actually appreciate it. I've seen calmer players try to do this many times with angry losers over the 20 years I've played in APA. Maybe it's not normal in all regions of the U.S.?

In any case, I'm sure there are many players who don't even try to shake hands if someone walks away upset. In my experience players who are clearly angry when they lose appreciate a handshake and honest conciliatory remarks. It's just a game and we're supposed to be having fun - a reminder of this in a friendly way is usually appreciated.


I'll leave this thread now - I thought it was humorous and really didn't think I would get judged like this. But ... I haven't posted much on AZ lately and had forgotten how things usually go.
 
You were persistent in pursuing someone who was angry and obviously ignoring you and then went out of your way to make undesired physical contact. Definitely not saying he reacted appropriately as he absolutely didn't, but you aren't exactly blameless here either. Just saying, not everyone likes or appreciates interacting with others beyond what is minimally expected, especially after COVID.

I can see a startled punch that doesn’t get pulled quick enough. Not so many scrotum kickboxers operating on reflex I feel. But, hey, I’m just in my small part of the country. OP may have been onto something. Anybody know if handshakes are being phased out in SanFrancisco as this gains popularity?

How most people get someone’s attention. Sounds like another tantrum caused by participation ribbons during childhood. Also if you kick a guy in the balls you’re a B&$@&. I’m not sure what it means if you try and fail. Sounds like a terminal case of little man syndrome

This has nothing to do with the APA.
This is infrequent, but it's not exclusive to the APA. Started off sounding like another APA hit job post.

I wouldn't have pursued him for a handshake. I would beat his ass harder on the table the next time.

But under your circumstances, I think I would have reacted a bit different then you. An attitude adjustment would have been called for in this case. Like in this song...
