Well, Mark Griffin and his people did a fine job with this tournament, but I gotta tell you - this was no DCC - - there was about 1/20th the amount of people and about 1/20th the amount of amount of action....Obviously the IPT is part of the reason for this....There were many times in the afternoon or evening when you could walk down the entire length of the vendor hallway and not see one other person the entire way ! - quite a bit different than at the DCC when that same hallway is a crowded mob scene.
As for the one pocket tournament, there were a lot of upsets....It kinda seemed that the top players, (ie. Cliff, Putnam, Frost, etc.) who had to rush over to the IPT/Reno as soon as this was over, were looking ahead to Reno and not playing their best, and they didn't seem 100% focused on this tournament....I think this had a lot to do with shortstops like Nick Vita, Piggy, Adam Smith, etc. making it further than they normally would.....Although, that said, young Nick Vita played jam-up - showing no fear, making everything he shot at, and moving very, very, well for a young guy.
As far as action, there was'nt a whole lot while I was there ( Monday thru Friday).........A few action sessions that I saw were: Nick Vita beat "Miami Randy Epperson" playing even one pocket for I think $200 a game >>> Playing 9 ball, Justin Bergman won about a thousand giving Shannon Murphy the 8 >>> Larry Price played Matt Clutterbuck even 9 ball - I don't know who won >>> and Scott Frost broke even with Mark Jarvis @ $200-$300 a game giving him 8 to 7 + Mark got to spot a ball after the break.
