Some times, you want the cue ball to be thrown out more but with the same amount of spin.So changing to a heavier tip holder allows this to happen. But usually they use it in the very light configuration , and as you say aim a little differently. It all depends on how much room there is and what I call the grippyness of the ball and cloth.
