Not to long ago, I was seeking someone to repair a Lucasi... The Stainless joint had came loose and was making some weird noses.. So I started contacting cue makers and ran across J&D Custom cues... He said he would fix the joint, and anything else I wanted done... He also treated me with respect even though I was having a China made cue fixed..

I wanted a White colored Joint, instead of the Stainless the Lucasi originaly came with, as I thought it would look better... Jim also suggested a leather wrap, whitch will be installed as well... He also did some repairs on the butt cap, and forearm and required a refinish, not to mention cleaning the shafts, and installing two tips..

Here is a few progress pics, and I have to say I am very pleased, and will definately go to jim with all my repair needs with any cue I own... This cue happens to be my sons, he loves this cue, and didnt want anything else.. As a father I feel proud I went with Jim so that when the cue is finished I can hand him a refurbished and highly customized cue..

I realize Lucasi isnt a high end cue, Jim treated our Lucasi with the same care he would treat any high end cue, and that to me means alot..

here is the joint installed, Jim said he was waiting until the glue fully dried before he turned it down to match the shaft

Ill put up progress pics as Jim sends them, I just wanted you to know, Even if your cue doesnt cost thousands of dollars, there are cue makers who will still treat you right.. Thank you Jim and I cant wait to see the wrap!

I have a lucasi that was a gift and my first decent cue... For sentimental reasons I've been thinging about getting it re-finished (many dings, scratches) and also considered getting a leather wrap put on it...

May I ask what your paying for the work being done to yours?

Just give Jim a call, his number is in my sig.. His prices are fair, I assure you of that..

I love my Lucassi, but I have heard of similar issues.

Take mine for example,
-Had it turned down to 12.5, a year later the shaft warped.
-Every 6 months or so, the weight pin wiggles loose
-When the cue was about 2yrs old the butt-cap came loose
-When the cue was about 3yrs old the wrap came loose

I blame myself for leaving it im my vehicle too often, and think nothing of it. I still love the stick, even though there isn't much "Lucassi" left in it.

But I do keep hearing people mentioning similar things happening to their Lucassi. Kind of makes me wonder if there is actually a quality issue here, or if too many people like me are too lazy to take proper care of their equipment.

You leave your cue in your vehicle (car?)!? I get worried when the weather dips and I have to carry my case in the cold, open air! No wonder you have issues with your cue.

I wouldnt leave my cue in a car either.... Unless you have a completly sealed cue, like a cuetec, but even then I wouldnt..

Good post!

Looks alot better than mine thats for sure, I like the white joint over the stainless steel as well. I am also hesitant to give up my cue for a new one, I might have to look into getting it customized.
Kind of like "Pimp my Cue" lol.

thats some really nice looking work. that new joint is spiffy. what material is that he used? do you know?

I bought a McDermott with a leather wrap from Jim that he installed and I can honestly say the work he does is incredible. Very nice guy as well.

Socks, Im not exactly sure, If youd like I can ask him... Maybe we can get him to chime in....

Thanx guysfor all the kind comments. To answer-
Cost of this wrap is $80.00 , refinish work is 100.00 , and the shaft work including 2 new H2 tips and cleaning the shafts are $45.00
Tim also has been a joy to work with and I hope his son enjoys his newly reworked cue and shafts.
The joint is Ivorine and runs $60.00 to replace normally.
Thanx to all and Tim,
Jim Lee
