Just a little background:
I play pool every day at lunch on horribly maintained GC2's. Several months ago an incredibly annoying security guard started coming in. This guy has a meucci original that sits in his case as a spare while he plays with a cue that is black dyed maple from butt to shaft, except for four sparkling green points. The dye is actually wearing off of the shaft where it passes through his bridge hand, so it's extra "special" looking. The sad thing is, he actually shoots OK on an open table. On a good day he will run out if I leave him 6 or 7 balls in the open.
Anyway, I played him some 10-ball today. I was using it as a chance to try new stuff and sort of tune-up my stroke (and mind). I wasn't focusing as much on making the balls as I was on my stance addressing the ball and following through, so it seemed like I was kind of sucking and missing a lot. One of the other regulars actually said "Why can't I catch you on a day like this?" It really seemed like I sucked.
In the third game I broke and didn't make anything, so it was his shot. He didn't have a direct shot on the 1-ball, so it appeared he tried to kick at it and missed. I walked over and picked up the cue ball since it was a foul. He said something like, "You can't pick it up and put it wherever you want, I pushed." He never said a word! I told him, "You have to say 'Push' loud enough for me to hear, and I have to acknowledge it. That's actually a rule." To which he replied, "Fine, then re-break." I said, "OK, sounds good to me."
He racked, I broke, and made the 10-ball (we were playing 10-ball on the break is a win). He racked again, I broke again, and made the 10-ball again. I then proceeded to run-out from everywhere, and safed the crap out of him a few times when I didn't have a shot.
Just an FYI: I usually play this guy only when I feel the need to tune up my mental fortitude. He brought in his Natural Cures book to read while he was on guard duty, if that gives you an indication of his awareness/personality.
Just wanted to share
