Cut my own lace and wrapped it in a test piece after sanding dye and sealer it turned out well. Doing it this way saves you a ton. Just thought I'd share.
Looks like you did a great job as the lace looks really good. I was always thinking about doing that but wondered how long it would take to cut a piece. How long did it take you to cut that strand and how many yards is it?

Took me about 3 minutes to make 5-6 yards its actually really easy.
I bought a huge sheet of veg tan leather for $30 dollars it should do 8-10 wraps if i can section it out decently.
with the lace tool, leather, dye, gum sealer and finish i was about 65 dollars invested.
It takes a bit more sanding since its thicker but it has a nice feel. The trick I found was to let the leather sit in cool water for a couple minutes then let it air dry for a while until its dry but slightly moist and cool to the touch. this allows the leather to be a bit more pliable when wrapping.
I like to find ways I can save a little cash and be a little more hands on.
