I'm seriously considering getting a new cue. Looking for a ebony sneaky with a hoppe style ring, and some small ivory inlays. I've narrowed it down in my mind between blackheart cues and madison bob cues. Been emailing with Bob, and haven't with Jerry yet. Trying to think of the design I want before I do anything. I haven't hit with either cue, though I do live in Indiana and can always take a road trip down to Bobs place.

For those that own either one, what do you like and dislike?

Never heard of Madison Bob but I can vouch for the good hit of a Blackheart. I like Jerry's cue.

I've played a little with both.
They both do nice work.... I cannot knock either one.

Madison Bob makes a really front weighted/balanced cue. From what I hear hes a good guy to deal with.

Blackheart is more mid weighted. I think his woods are slightly better figured. Thats only a maybe. Bobs shaft wood I think is a touch better, but Jerry's (blackheart) is good as well. He is also a great guy to deal with. Email him he will get right back to ya. If you've ever played with an old D series McD and wished it wasn't as ass heavy. This is the cue for you. Thats what a Blackheart remind me of.

Both make nice frim playing cues. Talk with both of them.

I am talking (well emailing) with both of the now, and they both have been great to deal with. Could recommend either one from a customer service aspect when getting information and prices.

I agree. I dont think you can make a bad choice here.

I've owned both and still own the Madison Bob. They both hit well and similarly, but I think the MB hits a little firmer. I sold the Blackheart to my nephew because I wasn't using it at all, he still uses it and loves it and is playing very well right now. I prefered the Madison Bob because of it's more forward weighting as referred to by PB51 and because Jerry Eick (Blackheart) makes a cue with an old school larger diameter butt which I found uncomfortable for the size of my hands. I found that at first the MB forward weighting seemed awkward, but the more I used it the more comfortable I felt with it to the point that my preferred balance point is now more forward.

It's obvious since I kept the MB and sold the Blackheart which I preferred, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend both and will be checking out what Jerry has on display at the Super Billiards expo. If at all possible hit with both before making a decision.
Good luck.

Thank you for the information. Not going to be able to hit with either one more than likely. I'd have to take a 6 hour round trip road trip to hit with Bob's cues, and Jerry is just to far away.

Have to trust their reputations, and try to gather as much information as possible before making a final choice.

Is this a sneaky pete we're talking about? If so, does it have a steel joint, and if not, do you know how he achieves a forward balance with a sneaky pete? What kind of wood? pin?

Thanks,
Roger

No it's not a sneaky pete. It is a simple 3 piece butt with no points. Cocobolo butt sleeve and forearm, curly maple wrap area. Flat faced phenolic joint with a stainless steal pin.
Bob I believe makes all his cues have a forward balance point (mine is 20+ inches), how he does it with a sneaky pete would have to be answered by him. I imagine he could tap the hole for the pin deeper and put an additional headless hex screw up inside it. When I've spoken with him he's been quite friendly and open, try calling or emailing him.

Hi Cubswin

Although I'm not very knowledgeable about cues, I've owned a Madison Bob for 2 years. I'm extremely picky with my choice of cues, and it is by far the best I've every owned. The balance is incredible. Almost feels as if it is part of me! A friend of mine owns one as well.......I will try to get some info from him.

Cubswin,

I own two MB cues and have hit with several others, they are one of the best cues on the market IMO. It was about a 3 hr drive for me to go see Bob, I actually purchased his old playing cue from one of his friends but was able to spend some time with him in his shop. I would recommend his cues to anyone. If I am a little closer to you, you are more than welcome to come visit me and play with my cue for a while to see what you think, send me a PM if interested.

As far as Blackheart cues, I have heard nothing but great reviews! I dont think you could go wrong with either one.

Woody<--- cant see himself playing with anything but a Madison Bob Cue.
