Magic Eraser-a testimonial with pictures

That tip was the BEST!! I turned on a certain cuemaker about it and all he says to do is to make sure you seal your shaft pores well after you use it.

What is the best way to seal the shaft after cleaning?

vigorously rub/burnish with soft unstained leather until the shaft is warm to the touch... allow to cool... repeat...soon your shaft is smoother than butter..

There isnt too much alcohol on the prepackaged alcohol swabs. I thought that would be too much moisture for the shaft even tough alcohol dries fast.

After a deep clean with ME, I use a shellac-base sealer, either sanding sealer, or shellac reduced 2:1 with denatured alcohol. Wipe it on quickly with a lint-free rag, then let it dry for an hour. Sand lightly with 600 to 1000 sand paper to level any irregularities. Clean with a tack rag, and wipe on a final light coat. Smooth with 1000, then 2500 paper, and finish with a piece of brown paper from a shopping bag. You can also use the fine cushioned abrasives if you can find some. My preference is 1800 then 4000 then 8000 grit. Weekly alcohol cleanings gets me about a year before a reseal, but I rotate 2 different shafts. Periodic polishing with the 4000 & 8000 grit, or the brown paper keeps my shafts smooth and slick without any waxes or additives. Hope this helps.

Hardly surprising; Magic Eraser can do wonders to get shaft and Ferrel cleaned up.

Maybe some are aware, but the ME is melamine sponge. It is the stuff they use inside of Speaker Cabinets. The discovery of how it worked was by accident.
Thanks for sharing this information about magic eraser. I've been doing cue repairs for years for my friends locally and i've never used anything for cleaning shafts that works as well as magic eraser.

I've never seen a shaft as dirty as the one in the pictures on this thread. If this isn't a testament to magic eraser I don't know what would be.

Thanks again for sharing.
