Magic Trick (Pool Related)

Freaking awesome. It's weird. I was planning on posting a card trick using a pool table as well.

Note that the cards were grouped on one side of the table with the chosen card farthest out near the open side of the table. Pretty much any stopping point in that area would have been closest to the card in question. Nice trick, but.... :D

I was kind of thinking the same thing. I used to practice magic and card tricks to perform for friends for entertainment and was always pretty good at figuring out the ruse to most any trick before it was revealed to me. Now any amateur card magician can pull off the ol' "I'll pick your card from the deck" trick.
On the guys first shot there was a card that was obviously closest to the ball... but he had him shoot the ball again... from a different angle and direction. Starting over again before the trick is completed is taboo in the world of magic. Don't get me wrong, I like the trick and wouldn't mind knowing how he did it as opposed to how I would do it (probably the same). But I call shenanigans on the fact that the closest card to the ball wasn't flipped on the very first shot... Do it right the first time... it's much more impressive that way!

But don't listen to me... the whole world is a stage and everyone is a critic. Someone famous once said that many years ago... maybe it was George Washington.

Not saying he meant to do it a second time, but it's sometimes better to get it "wrong" the first time.

Take the pick a card and reveal it example. Spectator picks a card, and it's lost in the pack. You then reveal it right away. Cool, but not amazing. Now imagine it's lost, and the wrong card is revealed only to be changed to the correct card. That will leave a longer lasting impression in the spectator's mind. The reason for doing something "wrong" is to relax the spectator. They think you messed up and the trick is over. Thereby allowing you as the magician to perform the actual effect while their guard is down.

Again, not saying that's what he was doing, but there's very good psychological reasoning to get it wrong the first time.
