Maintaining a dime shaped tip.

Just out of curiosity, can anyone do this? (keep a dime shaped tip) When I get a new tip I actually shape it to a radius that is slighly more round than a dime. In a few days it becomes a dime shape and after about a month it is somewhere between a nickel and dime and holds for a while. I don't like to mess with my tip much, but I may go back one more time to shape it slighly more round than a dime, but the same thing happens.

My question is, does anyone ever keep thier tip at a dime? I actually hold one up to the tip and find that no matter what, it always falls in between the two. Oh yeah I use a Moori medium.
 
I believe the right view is that the tip keeps itself in the right shape for YOU by playing with it...

ie with a lot of english, your tip stays dime shape, if you hit mainly centerball than over time it flattens out.

Anyway, just a thought if your tip keeps flattening, than perhaps a nickle or less is the right shape for you....
 
MacGyver is right and also chalking has alot to do with maintaining your tip, i brush the chalk on all the time and i never really have to reshape my tip, plus i burnish the tip each and every time before i play.
 
Predator says a dime radius will have 5 to 10 percent less cue ball deflection than a nickel shape. (link below...)

So this says to me that it is important to keep your tip the same shape at all times. If you allow your tip to change its shape, then you will have a different amount of deflection and it will play differently. Then if you get a new tip installed with a different shape from what you have been playing with, you will have trouble.

I'm sure you have heard those famous words... "I'll play better once I get used to this new tip!"

I use a Moori Q (hard) tip which maintains its shape longer and use a dime shaped sandpaper shaper to always keep it a dime shape. When I install a new tip, it plays the same as my old tip.

Just one of the many reasons why a player needs a break stick, and not
break with their playing cue. And no, I find a dime shape too inconsistent
of a hit with many shots. I play with a nickel shape. I have also noticed
even real good players who shoot with dimes at about 10 or 11 mm have
more inconsistencies pop up in the hit stroke, so even though the dime
shape might be a plus for some english shots, I think it is a negative for
a lot more basic type shots, compared to a nickel shape.
